Im thinking of gettind one of those COB LED lights for my small box. 40cm X 60cm x120cm
What you guys think? Is it too mych for my box?

Does anyone here had purchased one of those and can give me some feedback?

200 watts is the real power?

Operates at a continuous 100 watts, should grow 1 plant and give sum good bud in your box, air circulation will be your problem without exhaust fans

Thanks for the feedback bro.

I got 2x 140mm computer fans for intake and 2x for outtake.

Probably will have a fan blowing inside to reduce heat and keep the air circulating.

Here are some pics of the box Im building:

I also got a carbon filter that I need to figure it out how I will attach. But no bid deal.

Any suggestions?

Forget the intake fans. Not needed. I would have got the smallest carbon filter I could and then have that right at the top of the box, vent it out the top side with ducting, so just one hole at the top and then have the ducting attach to a fan (outside of the box). A simple inline fan would probably be ok for that space. But don't waste your time with computer fans.

Definetely dont want the same size intake fans as exhaust fans either, exhaust should be stronger, nice craftsmanship with the woodwork though!
Thanks for your reply Morriston!

Didnt know it was a must but I think I see the problem here. when I attach the filter the exhaust fan will loose straight, right? Maybe if I put one more fan for outtake in the same hole?

Any suggestions?

Just so you know that isnt a "COB" LED etc, just a normal Blurple LED etc

Hey Kiwi, really appreciate bro but this box will stay inside my room and I actually already have a small inline 6 inch fan but that thing is too noisy! I need the quitest fan I can get, you feel me?

If you can build that, I would just build your light. 2 COB type leds (50 watts each), 100 watt heat sink, and a 100 watt driver. Mount the heat sink outside the box with LEDs shining through the top. Might cost about $100. Check out the indoor section, LED subsection for much more informative details. Very simple to do.

Just a little update in my small project.

Here are some pics for you guys to check:

the view of my kitchen...

I made this box to avoid the light coming on and out through the fan's holes

2x 140mm Cougar fans for outtake (around 140 CFM for both)

2x 120mm cougar intake fans just to keep the air flowing

The last thing I need to do is attach the small carbon filter.

Cheers :bigjoint:

Nice work.
The intake fans are actually recommended against since there is a likelihood of pressuring the air in the cabinet and any leaks would be unfiltered.
Also, for a little more money you can put in 4 or 6 cobs for more even light distribution...

As the above post mentions, once your carbon filter is fitted the 2x 140mm outtake fans will probably lose a lot of their 'pull' due to having to pull air through the carbon rather than having no impedance. Then you will end up with air coming in quicker than it can be filtered out, so you will get positive pressure (not good) and smelly air finding its way out where it can, rather than through the filter.

Turn the 2x intake fans off and that can't happen as air is only being sucked in as fast as it is going out.

I set my stealth cab up pretty similar to yours when I first did it, but I used a 5" pc server fan in a hole at the top, and I made a carbon filter out of a small cardboard box - (really ghetto but it does actually contain the smell. I just change the carbon after every second grow). That is why I know the fans will lose performance. It still worked but it was a REALLY noticeable difference between filter on and filter off performance. I have since altered the cab and use a 4" extractor fan I got for £20 which performs much better with the box filter.

Your cabinet looks much better built than mine, you are obviously good with diy, but I have a question - is that silver duct tape you have on the outside? It looks good but you must have used a full roll lol.

Hey buddy! I really appreciate yout reply.

My plan is to do 2 really small carbon filters like this one in the picture bellow:

Are you familiar to this?

It wil come out something like this:

For sure the air flow will decrease but I think will still be enough for my small tent. If not, Im gonna dig another hole up and put another fan with another filter

And by the way, yes I used a full 25 meters rool of duct tape hahahaha but it cost just 10 dollars and I loved the finishing!

Thanks again for your time buddy. Wish all the best :weed:

Yeah Im reading a lot about DIY cob leds probably I will built one for me since the cost is not too much. I got one 100w UFO led that I used in my previous grow and worked great but I really want to experiment the power of cob leds

Thanks for your reply dude!

The blurple lights can be modified into true COBs. I have a Mars 300 that I converted. There's threads around here somewhere I'm sure...

I saw the mesh version you are planning but I don't have as much vertical space as you do, I only have 32" for everything, so I had to improvise. If you pack the carbon in tight and only grow 1 plant in there I don't see why the mesh filter shouldn't work. I posted this last november when I asked when to flip, which explains what I did for my filter..

"If anyone is interested, I have an external 5" pc server fan on top of the cabinet that is rated at 150 cfm, this is sat over a jigsawed out hole. Internally I got a 2" deep A4'ish sized box and cut a large rectangle out of the front and back, put wire mesh over the holes and then 2 layers of oven hood charcoal filter top and bottom. The remaining space was then filled with a mix of activated carbon pellets I got from my local hydro shop ( 1kilo for £3.70 - bargain!!) and some smaller pellets I took out of some respirator mask cartridges we had at work for some reason. Stuck this to the top of the cab underneath the fan hole with double sided tape, and taped all the joints of the box and where it joined the roof with shitloads of tape so there was no chance of air bypassing the filter. I love duct and parcel tape!! This means the fan is pulling air through quite a large surface area that is also about 1.5" deep with carbon, so hopefully it should keep the smell to a minimum. The pc fan has lost a lot of cfm with the filter in place, but it still comes out with a force you can feel with your hand, but as my cab is only small there is still enough of an air change to keep temps down and replace the air regularly."

The 1st pic shows the filter during my first ever grow, when I used cfl's. The second pic shows how little room I have when I cram 2 plants in there with store bought led bulbs. I cut those down last sunday and had just over 500g wet, so hoping for 3.5 - 4 oz dry. I had to put the globes back on some bulbs as they were bleaching the leaves. I think I may have to go cob in the future to save me a few inches. Last pic shows stealth cabinet in situ...nothing to see here *edit the cabinet is an old set of drawers in my garage, which is why it looks so battered and filthy. I am not a scruffy bastard who lives like that!
