I know, it is tempting as hell to keep these males isolated in a nearby pot, away from the females, so I can get seeds. I really want G13/Haze seeds, as I know these will have the best chance of surviving all the way to harvest next year in the midwest, where the summer is shorter.
I really do want seeds. I was gonna try and make some feminized seeds by adding a hormone to a few sections of the female plants, but I'm giving up on that idea I think. It's too late now to induce the hormone, so I'm gonna go with the regular male plants pollinating a select few female branches. I'm gonna just keep one really vibrant male, destroy the rest, and isolate it far away from the females.
When the male pollen sacs look ready to burst, I'm gonna cut them carefully into glass jars, take them home, and prepare the pollen for fertilization, then paint on the pollen with a paint brush to a few selected female hairs.
I'll have to isolate that one female I pollinate too, to prevent any of the painted on pollen from accidentally blowing off the fertilized site, onto my other females.
It'll be a delicate operation, but worth it. Just have to do the pollination on a non-windy day.
