Looking good dude..... Mmmmmm ya thats a great idea set them off to the side as far as you can i mean when you think its good its not keep going 8) Dude if i was you i would most deff let them male's good and get you some seed's and man and also so you can clip some of them pollen sac's and put them into a lil baggie and save them to do some crossing of your own!! but u have to get them at the right time.....Great shit man keep keep it up!!!

I know, it is tempting as hell to keep these males isolated in a nearby pot, away from the females, so I can get seeds. I really want G13/Haze seeds, as I know these will have the best chance of surviving all the way to harvest next year in the midwest, where the summer is shorter.

I really do want seeds. I was gonna try and make some feminized seeds by adding a hormone to a few sections of the female plants, but I'm giving up on that idea I think. It's too late now to induce the hormone, so I'm gonna go with the regular male plants pollinating a select few female branches. I'm gonna just keep one really vibrant male, destroy the rest, and isolate it far away from the females.

When the male pollen sacs look ready to burst, I'm gonna cut them carefully into glass jars, take them home, and prepare the pollen for fertilization, then paint on the pollen with a paint brush to a few selected female hairs.

I'll have to isolate that one female I pollinate too, to prevent any of the painted on pollen from accidentally blowing off the fertilized site, onto my other females.

It'll be a delicate operation, but worth it. Just have to do the pollination on a non-windy day.

Also after a bit you can always spray the area of the bud with water to make any loose pollen non-viable.
Yep, that's something I've seen done too, and a good idea. I'm gonna collect the pollen pods in a film canister, then pollinate a few selected branches with a small paint brush; misting with water afterwords. I'll be covering the rest of the plant with a plastic bag to prevent any rogue pollen from escaping...I'll probably leave it on for at least an hour after pollination, just to be sure.

I already know which male I'm gonna use, and have a pretty good idea in what female I'm gonna use too. Early flowering, bushy, and tall growth are admired traits that I'll take into consideration.

These G13/Haze were a Barney's Farm collection, and if you get seeds from them now on Attitude's website, they're $60 for 5 feminized seeds.

http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/barneys-farm-g13-haze-feminized/prod_23.html

If you order directly from Barney's Farm, they're $73 for 10 regular seeds, or $113 for 10 feminized seeds.

I was thinking of making a Sour Diesel X G13/Haze cross too. That would be some sick, heady weed.

Well, one thing from my breeding experiences sometimes they don't turn out how they sound... But with proper back-crossing that sounds like a great mix.

Haha, well to even make things more confusing, I've decided to officially dump all my males.

I plan on spraying a Gibberellic Acid solution on one strong female plant.

Male pollen sacs will eventually form on the female nodes that I spray (again, lower branches most likely).

I can then use this female pollen, and fertilize another female plant.

There will be no XY (female/male) breeding characteristics to worry about...and hopefully pure XX (female) seeds.

I could self pollinate the same female that forms the pollen sacs, but there is a chance of bad inbreeding characteristics to be passed on, so I'll just pollinate another female branch on a different plant.

It might take another season of breeding to get 100% female seeds, but the seeds I produce this year should have a greater propensity to be female then male.

I should get the Gibberellic Acid by the end of next week, so I can start spraying the female I've chosen, once a day for 10 days.

Really would be pumped on many levels if I can pull this off. Just gotta make it happen.

No, I don't plan on cloning any of these females.

The hope with using Gibberellic Acid is that I can replicate the best characteristics of two females I pick out, and produce feminized seeds.

The way I've done this before, was by harvesting most of the plant. The part I left on there stayed in flowering cycle for much longer. What ended up happening was it was forced hermaphrodite, basically what happened was the plant thought it was coming to the end of its life cycle. It hadn't done what the plant is meant to do, which is grow collect pollen. Then die, thus depositing the seeds back into the soil further prolonging the species.

Well if the plant never collects the pollen it turns... When this pollen drops it forms "feminized" seeds. I've read this method will yield female plants that will most likely be hermaphroditic, my results haven't proved this although. I know anyway you make "feminized" seeds is supposed to yield higher chance of hermaphrodites.

Either way, just some random info I felt I should share considering the topic... I'm very interested into the method you described, so please when doing so can you take many pictures with detailed descriptions..? :leaf:

Yea, I've done a lotta research about that too.

I've actually done it accidentally one time, and not realized it. I forgot to pull an outdoor plant when I was growing 12 years ago, and came back just before a big frost to clean up some supplies, and found the plant. It had self-pollinated itself.

You're right , most of the time, the offspring end up being herms, and to be frank, I'd rather not have to worry about a herm screwing up some fine ladies in the future.

Now it's possible that I will get some herm seeds from this femaleXfemale crossing with Gibberellic Acid. However, the statistics I've seen point to a stronger probability that the resultant cross will be female.

At least this way, I'll feel better about not having a bunch of rogue seeds from all these males that I'll soon have. Don't get me wrong, I want seeds, but I want to be able to control which branches seed, and most importantly, to control the sex of the resultant cross.

Having even one male plant 'hanging' around until flowering could lead to an accidental pollination of my entire crop.

In the valley that I'm growing in, winds gust in unusual patterns, and I could see a male even 1/4 of a mile away pollinating the females.

Tomorrow, I'm gonna carefully pull the males I see. The remaining plants that are left will be watered, with SuperThrive added, 15 gallons in total.

I plan on making cannabutter with the male leaves.

Hell yeah, leave nothing to waste. Just load that butter up, not to much THC in males but some none the less.

Well, I just made it back from the plot.

Insanely hot out there today. 108 F. heat index. Brutal.

I cut down 4 males today. Confirmed males through and through, no mistaking the 4 I cut.

I think I see one more male Sour Diesel, but I can't completely confirm it, so I'm gonna let it go.

Otherwise, every other plant is either female or hasn't shown yet. I feel good about that. Males usually show first, to get ready to produce pollen and fertilize any nearby females.

I accidentally ripped off a small female branch while plucking dead or yellow leaves. It was small, but it still sucked.

I disposed of the 4 males so they can't do any harm. I was going to try and make cannabutter with the leaves, but I was just too hot and bothered to go through with it at the time. Besides, I'm doubting I would have got much from it anyway.

Watered the remaining 18 plants with just pure water, no SuperThrive today. I'll give the plants SuperThrive along with their regularly scheduled feeding of Fox Farm nutes on Monday when I go back out.

A few of the G13/Haze are really feeling the heat, and starting to slightly wilt. Hopefully with the watering they'll perk up a bit.

For the most part, most of the remaining plants look healthy despite the hellish heat. The Sour Diesel look completely strong and fine. The 7 seedlings are all caught up to the other Sour Diesel, so now you can't even tell which is which. I actually think the 7 seedlings are stronger at this point then the original Sour Diesel are.

I'll probably see some more pistil/stamen signs in a week or two, once this heat subsides to at least the low 90s.

Well, I have some pics and a video following this post:

Damn, they're looking really nice man. I think I'll try using pots w/ perlite next year, I put mine in the ground and the drainage is terrible. Those girls are lookin sexy though, keep us posted. any tips? XD

Do you use teas or just the superthrive? Sorry if you've already answered these questions in previous posts... I get impatient and scroll through for pics. They are beautiful, though. Nice work.

I feed them once a week with Fox Farms nutes.

Yes, drainage is very important.

I found that out first hand this year when none of the holes I dug would drain adequately, and subsequently when it rained, my plants would stew in a puddle of mud for weeks on end, getting very little oxygen to the roots.

That is exactly my problem, but I know better for next year. I also have the fox farm line up, but your ladies seem to be thriving off it compared to mine. Then again I am still learning, but practice makes perfect. Do you use the powders aswell? (cha ching beastie etc)

No, just the Grow Big, Big Bloom, and Tiger Bloom liquid.

Practice does make perfect, and even after all the indoor success I've had in the past, I learned a lot already from this years outdoor adventures.

Next year will be something big. Can't wait to get started!

Nice grow but I want to give you some advice: clean up the area! Helicopters will be flying soon and those white jugs, bags and other trash will look like a beacon from the air. You don't want anything there to draw attention to the area. :) BTW, it was 103 here in GA yesterday!! Man I know about plants wilting!

Yea, all that stuff you see in the background is me setting up for watering, etc....more of a temporary staging area while I'm there. When I leave, things look tip-top and unseen from the air. Those white jugs come with me when I'm done watering, and I take them back home.

Those little collection of pine trees really help when I wanna store buckets/tarps/etc without them being seen.

Awesome! I found a "redneck bedspread" at the dollar store; believe it or not it's camo. I needed something for padding, didn't matter how it looked and this was only $5 so I bought it. Something like that would be the trick if you wanted to leave some stuff under bushes and make sure it didn't get seen through the foliage. I don't know if they still have them but it's worth a look when you're driving by one. In Georgia they are on every corner, LOL.

Nice growing someone else. I got hard ass clay too and I had the problem of water logged plants even though I dug big ass holes and filled them with my mix. I lost 2 plants from root rot so I got ten 15 gal smart pots and repotted several already. The repotted plants from just a week ago have really taken off. I think the smart pots are going to make a huge difference. Your plants may have already out grown those buckets. I grew a few plants last year and I don't think they wil flip to budding until mid to late sept. I had a plant go all the way to Thanksgiving last year before I chopped it.
