A one off, years ago.Nope. Wawanesa tried that a few years ago and they lost in court. They claimed the policy was void. The judge wasn't impressed since the fire was caused by arson.
In short, don't trust insurance industry publications. It's lots of spin.

Do some research. Call your insurance Co and ask if you’re MJ/MMJ garden is covered? Call a few more after that and you’ll see the pattern of non-coverage for standard homeowners policies. Then for shits & giggles...call your mortgage company and tell them you’re gonna grow your 4 LEGAL plants and see how fast your mortgage disappears. I have had multiple brokers looking into this for 5 years...ever since I was turfed by TD. Just because it’s legal, doesn’t mean you can force insurance Co’s to issue coverage. Unless the Gov steps and mandates the insurance industry to offer coverage (like they did with Uber), don’t expect any changes anytime soon!
