thank you that means a lot. It is a 9x12 chicken run from wayfair. The kit Came with the frame, chicken wire, metal wire, and zips ties. Added the plastic sheeting from Lowe’s and pallets for a bit more visual privacy screening . The flat roof isn’t ideal for shedding rain water but I poked a hole so the rain water would drain into the green bin.
That’s a creatively souped up chicken coop!
… I got a deck grow going in this my 1st outdoor grow, but I’ve already been looking at them for a yard grow next year. Only thing I was leery of was the height but got everything else. They got’m on Amazon for ~$350 depending on size and style... but I certainly love what you’ve done with the place! Lol

Did you happen to lock down on a base wood frame to secure it or just roll with the ground as is for setup?

bill can make it fairly prohibitive. Even with less expensive (after initial sticker shock purchase) LED lighting (I‘ve been a 1000w HID bigot till now given my old school upbringing) it can be a “come to Jesus” moment when that dang electric bill rolls through for 4-5 months through harvest. Just say’n… RA the Sun god would rule if we can nail it. I’ll definitely be looking at that chicken coop option hard, but maybe with an V angle top instead of flat. I’m thinking I‘d get an optionally applied gardeners UV cover/netting over that dang coop so that it lets light in, keeps rain out but doesn’t cover the sides so I get a good circulation and strong light, but can still pull the cover off if the Sun is nailing it too. I pulled my Prayer Pupil as I noted earlier cuz of bud rot becoming more than just a passing fancy and lost maybe (5) of 8 of my top colas in some degree, freak’n unacceptable in my indoor world. But being my 1st outdoor year… it’s now about my current inexperienced process and evaluation for how I can better dominate the outdoor grow next year… Screw National Grid! Godspeed brethren!

Im pleasantly surprised to hear my last minute half assed build is inspiring some of you. it is just on dirt this year. I like the idea of a wood base around the perimeter and put the frame on top of some 4x4 wood to give it some extra height. Also want to add a gravel base as the floor but I think the whole setup will be relocated next year to the opposite corner of the back yard. You may be better off using a green light headlamp. A couple of minutes spread out in the sun every day will turn your green to brown rather quickly.
I’m so colorblind it’s all shades of grey, probably do it once is all, not everyday., one good blast of noon sun.
You‘ve basically validated my thoughts on the most economical way to get both some security and weather protection! I‘m with you on the 4x4’s, not just for height which at the standard coop of 6’4” is a challenge, but it would likely secure the site better in bad wind storms (rebar?)… I was also trying to figure out the height restriction too and started to brainstorm cutting out squares of the chicken wire above where the girls are planted so if they do happen to get taller than I expect, they’d have some place to peak out. Not sure if that would work with a cover though too and like warfox mentioned, it seems like the biggest problem outdoors is cats and general bud rot... but I’m determined not to leave them out without some cover next year. Pissed me off cutting my 1st girl. Still will end up with more from her than if I was indoor, but micro inspection to make sure you got all the rot at trim time sucks. Trim jail is bad enough w/o that challenge too!
I remember reading another post on this site awhile back where the grower built his own greenhouse (superb effort, so much so that I book marked it for reference lol)… but he used chain link fence posts connected and a bender to make a top with height. Pretty sweet and extremely sturdy obviously too. Not even sure it would apply but worth the look anyway!
