24/0 24/7?

So, is it fine if i keep a cheap 250 watt hps running for 24/0 for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 60 days of veg, 25 days of flower?

Oh and to save time (i know this is not relevant)
But would i be able to use foxfarm soil throughout the whole grow? or do i absolutely need nutes?

Hi KandyKlanMan, it sounds as though you are new to growing. First of all you are in the led section now so most people here would recommend using an LED instead of a 250watt hps. Second, 60 days veg is a long veg time for 250watt light imo 40 days would be plenty. Flowering depends on strain, the average strain will be ready in about 70days of 12/12 (veg 40 days with 18-6 (imo better than 24-0, save electricity and plant grow in the dark) and then 12/12 for 70 days) If you start from seed you are looking at 120 days start to finish, unless you are growing Sativas (often well over 70 days flowering) Some strain will be ready to harvest only 40ish days after switching to 12/12 but they are not that many, the average fast train will be around 55days of flowering. Dont know where you got 25days but no strain will flower so fast...


I am not familiar with fox farm. most plain soil (promix, roots organic...) will be fine on their own until for a while, once the plant is 10'' high, you can start feeding with veg nutrients (lower rate at first, follow the direction on the bottle) You will need veg nutes and flowering nutes, minimum 2 bottles.

My first time growing I used Flora nova for veg and flora nova bloom for flowering. I was new at growing and my results were decent for a first grow but the pot wasnt so potent. Now, I grow in supersoil, (in the organic section of RIU then subsection subcool you should find all the info you need to know about supersoil) I will never use commercial bottled nutrients again, if you are serious about growing good weed, dont want to fail on your first run and if the idea of giving nothing but water the whole grow appeals you, I would strongly recommend looking into it.

Well if you still got time for a novice grower, could you tell me what plant should i choose? I am growing in a 3x3x4' area and i was thinking on either critical jack or white widow since i have been told they are easy to "LST" and that white widow is high yielder. What would you prefer for a fast, high yielding and novice grow? Should i look more into auto flowering plants or photoperiod plants?

i personally would not run a hps for that long straight. and plants like night time. indoor growing is to mimic the outdoors there isnt place where marijuana has grown naturally in 24 hours of light. just my thought. i like photoperiod. if you want something as small as an autoflower do 12/12 form seed in a smaller sized container. theres guy^ who get massive plants 12/12 but they use 5+ gallon containers.

I am not a professional grower by all means! But I can answer novice questions and I liked when people were helping me when I started growing, so you are welcome.

I have never grown any of those 2 strains, in my experience, all strains were easy to LST, I would choose photoperiod for a first run for 2 reasons, If you want quick results you can veg them 18-6 until they are 2-3 '' high then 12-12, it will give you results almost as quick as an autoflower while using less power and getting more potency (most autoflowers arent that potent because they were crossed with ruderalis (a type of marijuana plant with 0 potency: indicas, sativas, and ruderalis) Also growing a photoperiod the first time is like learning how to drive standard right off the bat, afterward you can chose whatever you want but you will always know how they roll.

Its a good idea to start with REG seeds as well, start at least 2x more than what you will need, and you will know how to identify a male on your first run, therefore it might help you in the future when you get a feminized seeds that grows banana(hermi) you will know right away. I am starting to realise though that I have better germination rate if I wait until I see the sprouts coming out of the soil before switching to 12/12)

If you want to try 12/12 from seed or almost (12-12 from babies...) , then you might want to buy fem seeds so that you can have them in big containers right after the first tranplant without worrying that you are using all that space for a male. (12-12 from seed, it will be about 30-40 days before they show their sex, so a 60 days flowering strain will take you about 100days.

As far as strain goes, if you havent bought anything yet, I would recommend to look into the fastest, easiest indica you can find. The main reason for this is the longer the grow, the more things can go wrong. So for a first grow (I wish I would have known this the first time..) I would try a quick one

if you look around there are quite a few strains ready to harvest within 50 flowering days.

In my signature, you got a link to my current grow, well there is 2 grow at once in there, you want to look for the one in the tent, same dimension as you except 5' tall. (the results would be the same 4' high coze I got lots of room right now) All are 12-12 from seeds in supersoil, they received nothing but water up until 2 weeks ago where I started to feed them light teas.

these are critical facts you have answered =)

Get seeds from the net, lost give free reg seeds. Buy a pack of auto flowering to run along your free photo strains . I lost 4/5 of my first pack and a back up low maintenance autoflower will bolster your spirits if your photos fail.

IMO do strain review research.
