24-0 vs 18-6

Just curious, I can't seem to figure out why 24-0 would be better than 18-6 in my mind. I mean I understand consistent temps, but does it grow faster (1.3x faster)? Because if I am waiting the same amount of time (lets say 30 days) to switch from veg to flower, that would be the difference between 720 hours and 540 hours. Electric bill difference favoring the 18-6. So, someone help me:!:

I would persoally say yeah, it makes the plants work more. because the lights are always on, the plants are always working to grow more. When the lights go out in veg, its like a break for them, unlike during flowering, where they grow at night. Leaving the lights on for 24/0 IMHO anyways, is more beneficial to the plants overall size when you throw them into flowering.

And actually now that i think about it, wouldnt going 24/0 during veg, and then throwing them right into 12/12 actually make the plants panic, and start to flower faster?? i mean, with 18/6, they have a dark period, and when you throw them into 12/12, theyre like "fuck man, i hear ya, i hear ya, ill get to the shit when im good n fuckin ready", lol - but if you go from 24/0 to 12/12, wouldnt they be like "FUCK?!? WHAT THE FUCK IS GOIN ON MAN?? ITS THE FUCKIN END OF THE WORLD!!!", n start to flower faster??

This is just somethin that popped into my head so it dont matter if it sounds stupid, you get what im tryin to say, lol.

thats a good point on going from 24/0 to 12/12... somebody should test that !
but for me ... i was doing 24/0 veg and switched to 18/6 about a month ago.... no noticable difference in growth AT ALL...... ill be sticking with 18/6 :)

it could be like that.. but.. doesn't it take awhile too for people to get their shit into flowering when they switch 24/0 to 12/12 ? i mean i see ppl on these threads bitching, "why isn't my plant flowering yet?" etc.. you know what i mean?

i seriously don't know..
but i think it's pretty much STRAIN based.. some GENES are faster flowering, heartier, mite resistant, yadda yadda. .. all genes are different for each strain.. and they have different stats and attributes..
i mean i'm currently growing level 1 bagseed .. i dunno the stats haha

The main difference besides growth is 18/6 will show pre-flowers earlier in veg than 24/0. I say go with 18/6 or 20/4 because you like to sleep at night and so does your plants.

i am currently doin a micro grow, and i'm trying out something..
doing 16/8 for the first 2-3 weeks to grow them up a bit.
then swapping actually starting today.. to 15/9 for today, then every day dropping it down -1/+1 till i get 12/12 then flowering them.

i figure that would 'start them into flowering' like nature does it... gradually..
see what happens..

i read and article on this site can't find it right now but it said that 18/6 is better because at night the roots grow more and studies have shown the the more root growth the more the plant will yield

ya? the roots grow more on 18/6 than 16/8 or anything else?
hmm.. my roots are huge in there compared to the size of those plants.. i got no pics of em right now.. but they are pretty damn long in there..

I read that 18\6 promotes more female genomes with seedlings I dunno if that's true or not but I did go to that cycle with lighting.

i just did test it with one in 24 veg and one straight 12/12, the 12/12 is bigger still. 1 month old, but thats only 2 plants, random bag seed cfl grow

Other people have tried this and it is a waste of time. It just doesnt help anything. Better to do either 24/0 or 18/6 and then go right to 12/12.

its a plant, its a live. It needs rest. Dark allows the plant to process all the light its absorbed.
I tested it already. I had a random kush seed, no idea what. Had it vegging at 24/0 and it was growing mad amount of branches, but when i switched it to 18/6 the branches kept growing just as well, but also started growing outward more, rather than staying compact.

sounds kinda like how ppl do 24hrs of dark period right before flower to supposibly induce flowering faster..

I would say yeah, its kinda the same as what im sayin i guess. maybe that would be the benefit of doin 24 hours of dark before you throw into flower. Either way works though, is the point, so do your thing man. eitherway your shit is gonna grow and flower more than likely the same.

n you cant say that doin 18/6 makes the plants flower faster, cuz once i threw my plants into flower, it took 3 days for them to start showing sex. and im growing 5 different strains. So its not the genes, although im sure they may come into play somewhere along the road during the grow, but as far as saying that giving your plants rest promotes a healthier roots system, or makes your plants flower earlier, unless your growing in a clear bucket and can compare that way, theres no real way to tell. like i said, 3 days and ALL the plants were showin sex but one, n she showed sex at day 5. i personally like 24/0, but if theres no difference, if i was you id go with 18/6 just to save on electricity.

From whatever experience I do have, although I'm a noob, I'd say 18/6 has done me better than 24/0. Plants seem stressed under 24/0 and they've done much better under 18/6.
It's probably easier on your lights and bill too.

My thoughts exactly. I used to be a big fan of 24-0 light and I think maybe it would help during 12-12, but I found that growth actually seemed to be more progressive if I gave it some dark. I know the general reason behind this from my ecology class, but it is just a basic eco class...
But I do think that budding does occur faster, I wish I could say for sure but I cannot. Maybe in the near future I will use some of my space for a controlled test. Few plants in 18-6 and a few in 24-0. I wonder which will be ready to smoke first. ;)

I just switched to 18/6 a few days ago for the sake of the electric bill. But then again I'm vegging with CFL's and it probably don't make my electric bill no big difference.
