24 hours of light is for vegging you should veg for 2-3 weeks, but then again it all depends on what plant you got and how big u want them to grow, put your plant on 12on 12off when you want to flower (grow buds)
what lights Are you using? and how many plants you got?
every1 in here like to see a photo.

I got one plant right now its my first grow, just using a regular engery saver bulb in my closet its about 6inches away from the plant id say.
il upload a some pics tonite its only about 1 inch tall.
im asking because i was telling my friend i got a seed from one of the nugs he gave me and it sprouted so i was showing him and telling him about it
and how its been 2 weeks and he said its not suppose to be gettin 24 hours of light.

yes.. it is much better for the plant to have 24 hour light.. especially when your using CFLs.. you have a very weak light and it needs as much of it as it can get,, when the plant gets bigger your going to need to add more lights... then when its big enough that u want to make it bud, then u just switch the light to 12 hours on 12 hours off and it begins the flowering stage

MY seedlings are under a 105 watt cfl and a 150 watt HPS i'm going to keep them on 24/0 for another week or 2 before i go to 18/6.

24/0 is veggin... and 18/6 is veggin also .......dont matter if u have it on 24/0 or 18/6 them are still veggin light cycles....whats the point switching... from one vegg cycle to the other??

I do 24/0 . . . you need to get that fluro as close as possible to that seedling without burning it unless you want it to be tall and lanky, and possibly damp off and/or fall over.
6" is too far. I do 2 . . . try 3?

and if you turn that light off at all, I guarantee it'll be a lot taller when you flip it back on (hours later, weisenheimer!)

That square light with the cage over it is probably a halogen, not a good light to use. If you're strapped for cash Wallyworld has some outdoor flood light bases, for about 3 bucks, they work great for the CFL's they have in the lighting section. I have seen up to 150 watt CFL's on the shelf about 8.80 each. You will have to trim some of the plastic off of the flood bases so the CFL's will screw in. Now the CFL's you want to get are the bright white ones, combined with a cool white, which looks a little yellow when lit up. You can screw a Y adapter in the flood base so you can use 2 lights in each flood base. This should work real well for ya. G'Luck wit dat shiz.

If roots grow when lights are off, why would cloning require 24 hours of light for best results?
I'm not sure this is valid. Could be, but 24/0 has served me perfectly for decades.

well clones are diff... from growing from seed
Roots are roots. 18/6 is normal and fine. 24/0 is normal, and fine, and depending on your veg lighting, can produce shorter, bushier plants. Marijuana stretches in the dark.

Its actually better to do 24/0 cuz in veg plants dont need sleep..
They aren't making bud they are just gathering energy to grow.
Woot?
