24 hour dark or straight to 12/12?

I was faced with the same question on my last few runs. It is hard because so many people have their own way of doing things, and sometimes are stuck in their ways.

My secret for whenever I have a question about something that I am not sure on, or something that I hear many different opinions about... I go to MonsterGardens.com

I stumbled on their videos a little over a year ago when I was inquiring about Gavitas, and they seemed to be the ones with the most "know-how" about the products. So I gave them a call, and they told me more information about the Gavita lighting, nutrients, climate control, and everything else that i could think of.

I asked them about this issue... Is it better to put your plants straight into flower (12/12) or give them a day in the dark?

They told me so many different ideas about what different people are doing at the transition period. The best advice came from Jeff there, and he told me that he actually feeds his plants with Big Up Powder (Humboldt Nutrients) about 5 days before "the flip over," and then puts them in the dark for 48 hours. He said that this helps to trigger them into the flower stage a bit quicker, and that the pistols will come out about a week earlier.

I tried this out, and it did just what they said it would do. Big up for 5 days, dark for 2, and then 12/12 from there forward.

I hope this helped you out, MG helped me out big time, so I thought I would pass on my "secret information source" to you. :leaf:

haha...that response was funny! total commercial :P Big Up = Big Waste of Money lol

It is true everyone has something different to say on here. Try it, won't hurt....don't think you will notice a big difference either way. I try to mimic nature and yes it is possible for longer darker periods what was your veg. light cycle 24/0 18/6?

not necesary, some say it helps to put them into flower faster. if you have experience with growing you flip your lights with the knowledge that they are going to double in size after the flip....forcing them to flower faster is basically trying to eliminate the pre flower stretch which i feel is a important part of the plants cycle (not to mention your only hurting your yeilds)

do as you wish but the NEED to do this is not there. its simply a tek probabally thought up by some stoner and it caught on....the reality is, in the wild they dont get 24-48 hours of dark before they start flowering so why would they need it inside.

best of luck m8 and gl with your grow.

babys going into flower, would just like to know what you guys say
i do 24 hrs of darkness to stimulate the flowering period.
its especially helpful for sativas.
stresses related to nutrients or temps have more of an effect on flowering time so if you have these areas dialed in you may see a slight improvement in yeild/flowering time.
couldnt hurt to try it. youll also save 2 days of light costs.

24 hour, to 2 weeks of darkness, or nutes or pure water before harvesting. i think it makes no difference. vaping it all tastes deliciously the same.

They don’t get a 24hr dark period in nature, I don’t think they need one indoors.

I don’t think a dark period would hurt them though.

So it comes down to choice.

If anyone comes up with definitive data on this I would be happy to see it.

there really isn't any definitive data. people have done side by sides and the results always vary.....like someone else said it all boils down to personal preferences and peace of mind.
