24 hour light cycle during veg??

heyy, i just wanted to get some experienced oppinions on a 24 hour light cycle. has anyone had good results with this method or would it put too much stress on it? i planted it on the 14th and it shed the shell within 2 days. it seems to be doing okay besides the slow grow rate, which i know the 24 hour cycle slows it down anyway but the main thing im wondering is does it affect potency at all? is it more resinous? & is it too much stress on it, as i plan on doing lst.

24 is fine it will allow it to grow all day with stopping, but it shouldnt slow ur grow but it should do the opposite

yea, im pretty positive its the night cycle that causes the stretch isnt it? so the 24 hour cycle would stunt the grow rate a bit. but, then when you switch to 12/12 for flower it apparently blows up in size cause its releasing all that stored up energy from the 24 hour periods of photosynthesis. im just kinda worried that it may be too much stress to put it under. and where im planning on doing lst id like as little stress as possible, lol.

In my experience I have found that running a 24 hour veg keeps my plants shorter and bushier with tight internodal spacing. Once you flip it over to flower it will then stretch out. I honestly have not noticed any kind of significant difference in yield having run both 24/0 and 18/6 except on my power bill.

plantsdo there growing when the light is off they store energy when the light is on so running 18/6 will get you far better results and you dont need to use as much power

24 hour triggers a hormone to keep them shorter and tighter, and dark triggers the opposite. some see a fatser plant at 18/6 but what they see is stretch. it does both the same below the soil to the roots for the shaping............auxins and cytokins

yea, i kinda figured the 24 would keep them shorter cause all it's doing is storing energy for the 24 hours. but now when it comes time to flower does it produce any more quality of bud? is it more resinous or potent? also would there be more of a yield? cause once it starts to output all that stored energy you would think it would more less be on steroids, lol.

but im thinking it might kinda stress it a bit too cause it's obviously not the plants natural cycle.

so what's your oppinion there?

oh, shit sorry. didnt notice your post there. so there isnt much difference in yield or anything then?

You can veg at 24/0 but it is a bit of waste. After 18 hours of light a day the plants don't make use of the light as efficiently and so they should have a dark period after that 18 hours for them to be able to better utilize their stored energy (they grow more at night, they aren't simply stretching because they are looking for the Sun). Tell me anyplace on earth where plants have adapted to having no darkness? It will work, but they weren't built for it!

There are advantages however. You won't have to worry about light leaks because the light is always on, those extra hours can help keep your room/house heated in the winter, you can work on your plants anytime you want, etc.

But I think generally it just isn't worth it. It will cost you probably 33% more, but you won't get a 33% benefit (remember after 18 hours the light isn't utilized as efficiently). The extra heat can be a problem, the light and sound from the equipment is running at all hours, etc.

my plants grow more during the dark cycle than the light cycle. there are processes, which i cannot think of exactly at the moment, that occur during the dark cycle. the plant may still do them, but it will be much more inefficient than if if they did it in the dark.

He is right. The plants are built for day AND night and they work best at certain processes during the night and others during the day. Their day light chores are done most efficiently with up to 18hours of day (after that daylight functions are less efficient). You can probably grow a more impressive plant in the same amount of time with 24/0 than 18/6 but the one going with 18/6 got more for his money/operating costs.

I have also read from multiple experienced growers that if you veg 24/7 it will take a bit longer for the plant to start to flower when it goes 12/12. I have been told that it could delay the flowering for up to 2 weeks.

now, i read the complete oppisite. that when it comes time to flower they pretty much double in size of what they would if they had of been on 18/6 vegging. Because the 24 hour cycle is just them contantly building up energy and when 12/12 is induced they flush all that stored energy and cause them to double up in size.

either way, im still not getting the answers i need, lol. i know it stunts the growth, i read that already before i even started it.

what im wanting to know is does it stress the plant having it on 24 hours as its obviously not the plants cycle? how does it affect potency and yield?

i know one guy here said he didn't see much of a difference and i take that into account. but, i want everyones "experienced" oppinions. not half assed oppinions made by some kid who's only been growing in one of his moms closets.

Anything can stress the plant unfortunately there is no real way to determine if the light cycle stresses it unless a side by side from clone is done comparing different light cycles. Somebody may have done this, but I haven't seen anythin in my experience. I did my first grow 24/0, but it turned male when it flowered. Now that I have a dark cycle, I see more growth after the dark cycle, as I already stated before. I really don't think an extra 4 or 8 hours will benefit any.

18/6 all the way.. IF 24/0 HAD ANY REAL EFFECT ON YOUR GROWTH RATE..in REAL LIFE it would not make your wait more than a few days.. so why not let your plants root system Balance out with all that growth your doing their

Plenty of plants double in size going into flower from 18/6. I doubt you are saying that 24/0 allows them to quadruple in size... (because it doesn't)

From what I've experienced from my grows is that 24 isn't the best way to go...I use a 20/4 for clones well when I used to run clones. I focus on root growth not top growth. And if your getting 1 inch between the internodes that's what I shoot for in veg. and I keep mine short with LSB or lower stress break. Anyway just my two pennies

IMO plants need darkness hell after running 18/6 on my girls there begging for lights off now i am not sure what kind of power you are using but i would think the normal paramaters from clone 24 cycle / you could go to 20 / 4 then 18/6 i jump right to 18/6 with amazing results
