i've never heard of putting plants in darkness before flowering. usually the switching lights down to 12/12 is enough to get it going, where did you hear this?.

i do 36 hours to let the plant know that it is time to flower. Its a great way to kick start the flowering, I have done it for the last 3 harvests and can see a little difference, the #'s say total was 2.3 oz more so thats about 2/3 more using it than before when i didnt growing the same strain.

Whitelabel seeds say to turn the lights off completely for the last two week before harvest or at least down to 8 hours of light to protect the crystals.

I would do a simple 24 hrs. Unplug the light and reset the timer to be on 12/12 then plug the light in the next morning.:bigjoint:

Dude... I have never tried it, but that's what the company claims will keep the bud crystals intact. Since I'm doing a SOG I thought about doing it or at least cut lights to 8/16. You know, just see what happens.

"The Stichting Institute of Medical marijuana (SIMM), the first company to sell marijuana through the pharmacies of Holland, has been investigating the medical possibilities of cannabis, together with TNO laboratories and the University of Leiden.

One of their discoveries has been that to keep the ripe plants in the dark before harvesting could increase their potency.

SIMM’s growers separated a crop of mature plants, harvested half of them and kept the other half in absolute darkness for 72 hours before cutting and drying. Analysis of the resulting dried buds showed that some varieties had seen an increase of THC of up to 30%, while CBD and CBN remained the same."

That quote fails to take into recognition that the plants effectively 'flowered' for 3 extra days, while the others were immediately harvested. I'm sure there was a little difference, but it's not solely due to the dark period. They should have let half the plants continue flowering under the light, and the other half having a dark period.

ok, you two don't get it . We are humans, we like to fuck with shit. Man has always manipulated with nature(God), and always will. Some times it turns out good and other times....? There is no right or wrong way to grow. If man didn't mess with shit we would be no where. Get out there and experiment.

Pretty sure 2 solid weeks of darkness would kill your plant, would it not? Isn't light pretty essential for it's survival? Every time I've seen this come up the general consensus is (IIRC) 36-72hours MAX before harvest.

Everyone seems to have gotten sidetracked. Unless I misread the OP, he wanted to know about a dark period BEFORE flowering? That I have never heard of...

I just got done putting mine into 36 hours of Darkness and it did throw it in the budding cuz it was not budding before I threw it in there or maybe it's just coincidental but I really think the 36-hour trick works my only question is what light schedule should I put it on now that it's out of the 36-hour darkness

I did this my very first grow and it was white widow funnily enough however i only did it 2 days dark cos i was vegging 24 hours lights on for 5 weeks otherwise i wouldnt bother with it if your vegging 18/6 cos your plant will show flowering faster from the switch to 12/12 vs vegd 24 hours lights on

And at leaving them at the end two days in the dark increases resin but not by much id say concentrate more on your environment than expecting much more resin return using that method low humidity and high light intensity for bloom is the best way to increase resin imo
