2400 watts in a 5'by5' floorspace? Help!

Ok i have been debateing with myself on a couple of things. I have a room that is 10' by 13'. If i go by the 100 watts a sqft that leaves me a 5' by5' footprint. But i also see that most people use a 3' by3' per 400w ballast. I have 11 plant all about 2' tall and maybe a foot in diameter some bigger some smaller. I plan to run 3hps and 3 mh bulbs in my high bay fixtures. So ? Is would i be better putting all my plants in that 5x5 square or would i be better with lets say a 10' by 3' footprint putting the ballasts every1.5' and afoot on either end? Hope this makes since.

I personally think 2400 in 5x5 is almost overkill. 1000 watt covers 4x4. You could do two 4x4 plots ant only use two 1000 w. or run a 3x9 and use three 600w but IMHO that is nothing but a recipe for,too much heat. Plus, unless some of them are hanging vertical for side lighting, I think it would not penetrate the canopy like you think it will.
Let me clarify, that is not too much power, it is just too much for the space mentioned. I think you should make your grow rectangular rather than square. Then you can also daisy Chain the air ducting for the hoods. But running six lights seems excessive.
plus, a 400w would need to be right on the canopy for max efficiency and if you get varying plant heights, that could be tough. You would need to train, lst, or scrog to make sure they are even heights.
Look into bigger ballasts with dual arc bulbs. I use eye super blue. It has both hps and mh bulbs in one.

Thanks for the reply i have no money to buy new ballasts but i do think your rectangle idea is good. I got all six of my 400w highbay ballast of clist for 100$ i have made it so the bulbs can hang freely or in a reflector. Right now i have 4 of them in a 6' by3' room with no heat issues. What i want to accomplish is the best light coverage for all plants. So would i be best off going with the 10' by 3' idea???

Yeah, prolly. Keep it rectangular and maybe just add one more to see how it affects heat. Summer is here and I don't know where you live but my dialed in setup can be 12-15 degrees warmer by August. Sounds like you got a good deal of cl. Make sure you put ballasts on separate circuits, don't want to start any fires.

Well i decided to go with 4' by 8' footprint i think that will give me a good ratio between lumens watts per sqft.it is ( once i get last two ballast hook up) 9,375 lumens a sqft and 75 watts a sqft ! Hipe i added all this right lolimage.jpgimage.jpg
