250w hps + 250 w Ballast Eleccy

Hello everyone,

can i say its been a pleasure to browse these forums regarly in the last months, i have learnt alot and am very happy to be hear.

I have done alot of research regarding costs etc, working out kwh etc.

i have one question:

I have the following equpment:

40 x 40 x 120 - Grow Tent
250w Grolux HPS
250w Ballast
80mm PC Fan Intake
120 mm PC Exhaust
TT Duct Fan 4"

im trying to work out my ellecy costs...

im from england and my kwh price is 20.156p KWH

by my calculations i am using

estimate 600w?

0.6KWH x 18 Hrs/Day x 30 Days = £32.40 Veg
0.6KWH x 12 Hrs/Day x 60 Days = £43.20 Flower

I am also trying to decide if i should just go with Cfls as cheaper?

But i dont get how they are cheaper as a 250w CFL is still drawing 250w same as HPS...

Could Someone Tell me if im right here?

sorry i think i made a mistake

• 0.6KWH = 11.5p (Est.) x 18 Hrs/Day x 30 Days = £62.10 Veg
  0.6KWH = 11.5p (Est.) x 12 Hrs/Day x 60 Days = £82.80 Flower
  
  am i right? im very confused and at the moment i am think to change to cfls if cheaper to run....

it cost me 40£extra each month for my 250 , prior to getting my new stuff

edit: by extra i mean on top of my normal elec bill

so for each grow it will cost around 100

wow your being ripped off my bill has gone up only 25 with a 600 running for flower and 400 veg

how much is your KWH??

does a 250w HPS + 250w Ballast make 500w or still 250w?

is the ballast taking the 250w only to the light or isit neading an extra 250w to power itself?

basically is a 250w HPS + 250w Ballast = 500w or 250w still, thats what i really wanna know....

the wattage rating for any light already includes the ballast. calculate for 250, not 500

so my setup really is only 400w MAX?

uk ??? ohhhh and it was 40 pound for the whole bill each month not 40 extra . just realised lol

Id be surprised if it even hits the 300 what with using pc fans.



P.S. OP you forgot a unit of measurement when describing your tent, pretty easy to figure out but a good way to get blasted by a . . 'less then helpful forum member'.

im in uk and my 250hps on 18/6 costs £20 a month and the 400 on 12/12 costs £21 a month and a ballast does not use the same power as the light it does obviously use some though
