250w metal halide ballast & bulb compatability question

Thought I might be able to help, so I consulted my "Secret Source" of imformation (1,000 Bulbs.com). Sorry, I got Bupkus!

The good news is - you can get a "250 watt, Probe Start, Metal Halide Ballast, Rebuild Kit" for about $40 bucks (that's all you really need to make the bulb work!). I think it was an ANSI # M-58.

I can't really say if bypassing your ignitor is a good idea or not - some "Yahoos" will say "Hell yea, that'll work - go ahead" (without a single bit of Electrical Theory knowledge!). I would really check that out before I tried it!

you can't bypass the ignition in any way or form or the bulb will not light. it takes the that to start the bulb.. my suggestion is go return it and get the right one.. sucks yes but your ballast and bulb life depend on the matching set to get the right life expectancy

Probe start ballasts only have the ballast and capacitor. Pulse start have bal, cap and ignition. I just want to know if the ignitor is the
only real difference or weather the caps are different or the ballast itself.

Yea i might just send it back or re sell. I'd be loosing
more money gutting out my ballast to get the bulb to match. It's RTB so it's another $20 just to
send it back for my refund which sucks cause it's there stupid advice that made me get it.
