2nd grow help with trichome color

supposed Cali Kush. I’m 53 days in flower trichomes look 70-80% cloudy to me but not one dam amber trichome. Are these ready?

I’ve seen buds triple in size after last week defoliation I let this bud go 6 days after that picture above

The new prob is smell. In the past I had 8 strains I dried all would dry within 4 days and loose all smell....I figured out to retain smell the dry must be over a week with a rh over 50 and under 60. Works great but I have to crack open buds to get that lovely smell...the outside has the hay smell...will the cure change this..... I read that it should never smell like hay. Mine doesent until day 5
 
That's the $10,000 question! There is a lot of info in that perfect cure sticky above this thread. I am immune to the smell of weed. When I crack a jar I smell homegrown hay, my buddies smell it and they smell dank skunk. I think all weed has some hay smell but it gets overpowerd by good smell. I'm still trying to figure it out. Maybe you are immune to weed smell too.
 
Since you've had the same problem with 8 different strains that have dried for at least 4 days, the lack of potent smell is because you're harvesting too soon.

Edit - as mentioned above, don't cut off all of your leaves prior to harvest, you're reducing the amount of light the plants can absorb for finishing the plant.

I check with a 60x and like couchlock plants have 50% amber when I harvest

I trim the top layer of fans and sugars and leave the bottom I’ve personally seen buds triple in size on 9/10 strains

Anything green goes through photosynthesis after 5-6 weeks the bud has enough calyx swelling and surface area to create its own especially with the sugar leaves.... they should be yellowing at that time anyway. Sometimes the energy pulled to keep half alive leaves is more than the plant can make. After removal plants become 20x more vigor

Alright so regarding the hay smell..... My research and discussions with other knowledgeable growers has come to this conclusion. Take it with a grain of salt... When you mow the lawn the grass starts to smell like hay because of a defensive mechanism, so it doesn't smell good to whatever is eating it and then hopefully stop. I believe the same is true with cannabis.
I had a big 9' plant this past harvest, I cut half down and trimmed wet ( I like wet because its easier for me) but the other half I cut down and hung up leaving all the leaves on as it was on the plant.
The wet trimmed smelled like hay for awhile like normal and then the curing brought it back with a kick.
The dry trim section smelled only 10% like hay as compared to the wet trim and when cured it came back the same as the wet trim.

My conclusion:
Dry trim sucks and if the end product smells the same after curing then I would prefer to wet trim and then cure it.

I don't know what would happen if you trimmed it on the plant let it stand for a day or two and then cut to hang. Like would it stop sending off the hay smell? Dunno

I use hydroton so I have been not watering the plant the last 3 days which is like a week of soil drying cause it dries out so quick. I then cut and hang. I have a huge cedar closet I had at 50rh. I bumped to 65 after 1st day tempature 68 with a whole In door for venting. I Left it for 7-10 days. No hay smell besides last day or two. Then I dry trim and bud smells awesome again. The. Cure it in a cure vault. Been working great! I totally agree that the wet trim is probably the way to go but I fear the cuts will make the bud outside release too much moisture. I have tried trimming then letting it heal for 3 days before harvesting, and that seems to be the best!!

Nugs1 I think you are right I have been worrying less about hay smell as long as the smell is on the inside because t comes out in cure.

For people looking for advice situations like a 3 day dry can make bud permanently smell like hay. Chlorophyll only converts to sugars and leaves the bud when it’s in the cure zone or higher, over dry will lock the nasty in
