it is my understanding that the dual arc tube 630 is kinda Janky and you really want a true Philips or Hortilux 315 lamp on a real Philips Ballast for proper lamp life.

I’ve thought about 6 315’s but it would be almost double the money and that much more draw on the power. I believe 2 630 at 1260 w for 39w per sq ft should be ample enough for some good don’t you think? With the savings I could even supplement with some led lighting in the corners to ensure a really nice coverage.

I haven’t been able to find much data on the 630’s but I’ve seen a few journals and reports of good results. I’ve really been trying to find a par map of a 630de but haven’t come across one yet.

At the time we design our reflector, we design the shape and combine mirror/hammertone to minimize hot spot and choose the right reflective material to maximize PPFD.
Regarding the 315, we only recommend Philips bulb, very high quality. If you go to our website you can see we only sell Philips 315W bulb.
@csovfnst You only need 3 SunPlix 315W at most, period.

I believe I’m sold on the 2 630’s for the 4 x 8 space. That should be fine right? Not sure if I’m gonna go with the ones that can take a 1000w cmh once stable or the plain 630w fixtures though. I don’t really foresee needing the 1,000w cmh’s in a 4 x 8.

I still say (3) as it's still not using then overall power that (2) thouies would which is standard for a 4x8 running HID..........and would provide better spread and more even canopy lighting

Just my $0.02

Can you comment on how hot the hoods get for the 630? I saw on the website that the max temps can get pretty hot. Is there any issues with having cool air blown directly on the fixture? Such as reducing bulb life or anything like that?

I didn't measure the temperature of the hood when the light works. No one should touch the hood, right?
There is no any issues with having cool air blown directly on the fixture. Why do you want to do that?

3 315s (ideally the knob dimming one) are OK. But the tent is 4x8, it's harder to install 3 315s than 2 630 DEs to get even light spread.

Just curious about the ambient temp increase they would put out. Blowing air high on the canopy, low on the fixture would help keep everything cool.

My customer uses the knob dimming (max 400W) in his 4x4 tent. Please see photos.
1 630 or 2 315 for 4x8 is a little weak, 2 630 will give best yield with high quality.
"Equivalent" means in growing, not in heat production.
