3 Gallon or 5 Gallon

Hey all wassssup? my first /last grow i used 5 gallon fabric pots for flower and i had a sweet first grow. I got 3 gallon pots that i want to use so i can fit a couple more plants in,lol. Would the 3 gallon pots suffice? Right now they are in 1 gallon fabrics and i need to switch pots before i flip em. My 5 gallon are fabric and the new 3 gallon are plastic. i want to use the plastic so i can drill holes in the rim for LST for the two weeks before i flip. Right now they are LST to the handles on the 1 gallon fabrics lol.

After stripping some of the outer sponge, I twist the solid metal thru the fabric and get busy. Works with plastic pots too - I'm a fabric farmer. :p

I transplant from 1g to 3g right before I flip too. Usually veg 1 week extra in the 3g. I have to water about 2x a week by the time I harvest (10 weeks).

So no need for the big 5 gallon then? Last grow I did well 12 oz 6 plants and once I cut them down it wasn’t a big pile of roots I was surprised so I’m assuming I can complete flower in 3 g pots thanks man

No need for the 5g, if your flipping right after transplanting. Even with an extra 1-2 weeks in veg, the 3 will make it. It really comes down to how often you want to water towards the end of flower.

Soil? Not so much. Be prepared to flip asap for fear of them being root bound .Any normal veg time in soil is gonna end in 5g min before flower imo.

I have some plants that are getting hard to take water at day 30 of 12/12 and they were transplanted into the 10 gallon in coco 38 days ago. The plants are freaking massive and taking water every 4 - 6 hours right now. Can't wait till they slow down around day 50 ish.

If you use plastic pots, drill the shit out of the bottom too. I probably put a few hundred holes in my 15 gals. Wasn't very fun, lol, but they don't have enough drainage to start with I don't think. I also drill the shit out of the 3's and 5's that I've used. And I go as big as I can for pot size, but I'm also doing the organic thing.

Jesus that’s excessive lol, but you got some diy air pots now! 3 gallons are plenty even in soil, I’ve gotten half pound plants from 3 gallons with promix.

Excessive yes, but drainage is a good thing. I would actually use fabric pots if they didn't dry out so fast in my dry climate. And let's see this 1/2 lb plant in 3 gal of Promix. Not saying it can't be done, but a lot of people on here are full of shit. If Renfro said that I wouldn't even question it, lol.

Yup no problem with lots of drainage! and sorry i dont need to prove anything to anybody lol. and I havent grown in promix for 15 years at least. Mainly used 5 gals back in the day as that was fairly standard but sometimes 3's as well. Obv with smaller pots you just have to be on your watering more and you have less forgiveness if you are late on a watering.

Maybe use a skill saw next time. Run parallel cuts. Might be easier and get same of better drainage.
