3 plants so young already all showing the same problem

Already at only 10 days old the plants lower growth is already showing signs of trouble, they are autoflower seeds from a good breeder, 2 different strains but 3 plants all germed together.

Simple 24/7 T5 lighting a few inches above, Pro-Mix BX medium in a solo cup with drainage, had about 3 wet-dry cycles so far, waterred only with room temp rain water, no additives

Is the plant really already hungry and I should be feeding nutes so young? I know I will have to feed the plant in a medium such as Pro-mix peat based, but maybe Im reading the plant wrong

What is the PH of your water, try to keep it between 5.8 - 6.2 works best for me

i don't grow autos but i think you want to start them in their final containers.

From my understanding promix doesn't have fertilizer. Well that’s what the guy at the hydro store said.

Rainwater must be pH adjusted and cal mag must be added.

It doesn't. Just a little calcium and magnesium from the limestone.

Id say over watered...3 cycles on a plant that size in 10 days no Bueno...roots need more oxygen...g/l

I’ll stick with Ffof or Happy frog then .

id wait till theyre dry and put a very small amount of potting SOIL on top and water with PH'd water.
i wouldnt start pouring nutes in there just yet, very easy to overdue it.
also, make sure you are letting the medium dry completely before you water, and only put a small amount of water in (no more than a third of the containers volume). once theyre larger theyll require more, and once your feeding youll want to water till runoff every once in a while, but for now, go easy.

I surely wouldnt say I was overwaterring, the cups were completely dry and light as a feather, I only add about 50ml of water. I assumed rain water would be PH neutral enough to not have problems, or that the promix would take care of the buffer. I was trying to take the human element out of it for this grow, but aparetnly Ive already got a problem.

What problem do you guys think this discoloration shows?

All 3 will be up potted tonight, I think I might try a soil instead of promix, it may react better to my rainwater

honestly they dont need much at this stage except maybe a little N.
you have the right idea, keeping it simple, maybe buy some soil to mix with your pro mix for when you transplant. and like i said top dress a bit onto these containers to get a small amount of nutes in there.

btw pro mix on its own can be acidic, and more so over time due to the peat. rain water may also be acidic.
just check ph, i believe promix is best around a ph6.

The starter charge has run out and it wants feeding, next grow start on your first or second water.

Promix is meant to be simple like that, of course most of their products have a starter fertilizer but its mineral and runs out with the first waterings.

Idk what reps or the company say, they sell base mixes with no additives but ya the rest are charged

Pro Mix and well water is a match made in heaven. I suppose a little cal mag would help out the rain water and raise the ph.

I can never grow a decent plant in solo cups. They get root bound so fast. I'm sure if you up pot them and feed them they will take off.

I just heard the benefits of coconut water to marijuana plants are really good. You should make a try, too.

Yes they are hungry. Ive grown many autos and some can handle feed early on and some cannot. I also would advise to grow autos from well known breeders like fastbuds, memphisto, or dutch passion. You can transplant autos but you have to know what youre doing and that takes alot of auto growing. Im not familiar with promix but if its like coco then water EVERYDAY. I would start on a 0.3 EC feed right now and water everyday. Good luck!

Promix BX is great. Promix is nothing like Coco. Our plants in a 15-20 gallon container that is at its fastest growing stage ( Strain Dependent.. Not AOUTS. ) uses 4 gallons of water every 3.5-4 days. Though a smaller plant will require watering less more often. Usually.


Been using Promix BX since it came out in the early 2000s. I get 20oz-24oz per plant inside in a 15-20 gallon container, and 1000w Hortilux HPS 145,000 lumens. More with a 1000w Gavita as it covers more space.

Your problem Is Not the Soil

Plant is simply hungry.

I like Chem Gro fertilizer, and start them out with about 10%-15% recommended dose, and I feed them from the very start. Every Watering. I also use Epsom Salts. No need for Cal/Mag with Chem Gro. Calcium Nitrate takes care of the Calcium.

Chem Gro

Base Formula...4-20-39
Calcium Nitrate...15.5-0-0
Epsom Salts.
1/4 tsp of each in 5 gallons water for seedlings/1st month.

NEVER let the plants completely dry out. This can, and eventually will cause leaf drop.

Also if you fertilize plants, and then let them completely dry out, this will concentrate the dissolved solids/fertilizer, and then when you water again, this will release the concentrated solids, burning the plants.

If you feed them at this time, you create a double muck up.

Buy a cheap Moisture Meter at Lowes. NEVER let the needle get to the Low Moist Line. ALWAYS just a bit above the Low Moist Line, and NEVER EVER INTO THE DRY.

Ive been growing since 1972, and use a meter. I can do without, but find no logical reason to guess, when I can stick a meter into the ground, and there is no guessing. I hate guessing, when the answer is easily verified by using a simple meter.

Never thought of getting a moisture meter before! Ordering one right now! I usually let my plants droop a tad but no more!
