300(actual)w cfl=300w hps

is a 300w (actual watts)cfl = to 300w hps in proformance will my buds be dense what extra steps will i have too take ( not saying i have a 300w cfl)

and allso is a combined amount of cfls = to that of one cfl like is 8...42w = 3....105w = 1.....300w (they all add up to around 300)

Yes, all floros basically have the same lumens per watt. Smaller bulbs add up. The light is produced evenly over the entire bulb. Higher wattage bulbs are typically much larger. When bulbs are smaller, and driven at high wattage, they are more intense, and are often called high output(T5/T8/CFL).

CFLs are roughly 65-75 lm/W.
T5/T8 fluoros go up to 90-100 lm/W.
Metal halide peaks at 90 lm/W. Lumen depreciation is the worst of all bulbs I'll mention here. MHs have largely been replaced by HO fluoros(T5/T8, even CFL) in a lot of commercial environments.
That seems like a fair average on a 400w HPS bulb.

Note that HID increases efficiency with more wattage, while fluoros do the opposite to a degree(down to about 10 actual watts).

No your title is wrong. They do not equal the same. I am not saying that CFL dont have their place in growing but you need the HPS for flowering. I love T-5s for vegging.

Also correct, desert fox. 1 lumen from a fluoro tube does not equal 1 lumen from an HPS tube. Lumen for lumen, the fluoro light is more useful. However, watt-for-watt, the HPS produces as many as 2x the lumens. So even if a fluoro lumen is slightly better than an HPS lumen, it's not 2x better.

However, (yes, another one), T5's can be as much as 140% as effective watt for watt when compared with HPS(mostly during veg). You don't get the same intensity as HID, but you get a very high quality light with a lot of primary coverage. When it comes to flowering, HPS does the best, usually(watt for watt). Even if it's by less than 10% better.
