3400 watts and a lady named Albert

A little History
This is my (our) second journal on this forum. The first journal can be found by searching my screen name (if you care). It was named something like "Super grow 3000 watt gets another 400 just for fun" or something like that. I don't know, and I never really liked the title, but RIU wouldn't let us change it.

Anyway, there are two of us involved in this little operation and we are roommates. Throughout our last journal we grew four strains and fifteen plants. The grow ended in a bit of a disaster. We had some plants show signs of herming and later on while dry trimming we found a shit load of mold. We pulled the plants the plants between a week or two early, yet still produced 4.5 pounds of quality smoke.

This grow is going to be different though. We have taken some precautionary measures in order to make sure the flaws of our last grow don't carry over to this grow. First of all, since most probably didn't read the last journal, I will give a run down of how our system is set up.

Basic Setup
Hydroponic drain to waste
Medium-Half Ready Grow and half Hydroton
Nutrients- The Cyco line minus silica
5-3x3 Trays
5-42.75" x 30" x 9.75" King Cobra Hoods
5-600w HPS bulbs
1-400w Metal Halide
5-Mushroom bags for Carbon dioxide
1-35 pint dehum (drains to five gallon bucket)
1-8 inch Charcoal filter
3-6 inch inline fans that blow through the sealed lights
3-Dual digital ballasts

Changes
3-New wall mounted fans
1-Titan master control unit with timer
1-Opened the room up a lot more (got rid of unused space)
19-One gallon pots

Veg
This time through we decided to go with one strain which is Albert Walker. Instead of immediately going to 5 gallon pots, we decided to stick them in 19 one gallon pots to start. Eventually we will transplant them into the five gals, but this should be much more energy efficient. Also, the one gallon pots are just Ready Grow without the Hydroton. Lastly, they will veg under a single 400w metal halide until they deem themselves ready for a bigger pot pot with more light.

Anywho, here are some boring ass pictures of what they look like on their first day home.

Ugghh
I forgot to mention our new plan of attack with the five trays. Each tray will be a little different. For example, we will try super cropping, scrogging, cages, nets or some other ideas if anybody wants to suggest anything. We think it will be fun to see how the plants yield against their counterparts.

Subb'd for round 2!

How big is the room itself? Have you had success with the mushroom bags? Just wondering why you don't have a c02 tank or generator (me thinking out loud). After the results of your last grow I'm sure you'll do great. Best of luck :)

Thanks everybody for the interest in this grow. As far as updating this journal, I will try to make grow updates once a week, but I'll check the thread daily (maybe). And if problems arise, I will ask the brain trust that is RIU.

Me too. Finding that darned Subscribe button was a serious IQ test btw - whew... _
Haha, now the real test is to see if I can commit subscribing to memory.

And I will be silently watching this one too.
And who knows. I might say something
lol, you already said something. Everyone can comment as freely as they like in this journal. In our last grow we had some amazing advice given by some super experienced growers which helped us out a lot. We welcome advice and criticism.

Last time the room was 12.5x10, but this time we got rid of a wall, and opened up a closet. Now the actual grow area is 15x10, with another 2x9 closet which contains all nutrients, the dehumidifier, extra soil, tools ect. Opening up the closet cleared up so much space that now we have actual room to mix our nutrient batches.

As for the mushroom bags instead of a cO2 generator?? I think we just went with those because our local grow shop guy is a very big advocate for the bags. It's hard to say if we have had much success with them, because we don't have anything to compare it to. We have done the math and figured out that in the long run the cO2 generator is actually much more cost efficient than the bags, so maybe the grow after this will have a generator. We actually plan on moving our next grow into a custom built work space.

really nice looking room im subed. any more info on the strain?
I'll post some links below about strain, but I will give a basic rundown if you don't want to read the links.
-Indica dom
-Afghani lineage
-Very hard to grow
-Very hard to clone
-Mostly found in the pacific northwest
-Very rare strain
-From all accounts it seems to be a heavy yielder
-Flowers in 49-70 days (big gap)
-Very little known about the strain
-It supposedly an incredible smoke
-There are people on this forum that know way more about this strain than I do. If they want to add any insight they can feel free to share.

Alright, after a week of veg I am back to give an update. As the cloner told us when we acquired these puppies, some are going to be runts and some are not going to make it. A couple look very strong, a lot look decent and a few are probably going to be pulled. Here is a look at what we have so far.

A group shot

A little look at what these ladies drink. It's like gasoline or apple juice.

This Mrs Walker looks to be the future mother of the bunch. She's head and shoulders above the next biggest.

This one has shown some growth, but it's odd and just overall looks unhealthy. She will probably be pulled. We'll give her a little bit more time.

This ol gal doesn't seem to have grown since we picked her up. We're pretty certain that she is just withering away, but we refuse to give up on her. Let us pray.

Alright, that's about it for now. We'll be around if anyone has anything to say, other than that we'll be back next week for another update.

Hey man "Mrs. Walker" is just screaming to be a mother!
IMO the cloner shouldn't be trying to sell the runts and weaklings to people, he should be the one weeding them out, it's his job.

I agree, but this cloner gave us extra free clones in case something went awry. We are only planning to take 15 to harvest, so four extra seemed like a pretty sweet deal.

I just did a couple of Albert Walkers. They were kind of a pain in the ass to grow and did not yield much compared to other strains that were in my garden. The "roadkill skunk meets lemon funk" description is dead on though. I mean the kind of roadkill skunk that has been sitting on the highway for about a week! Best of luck with your grow!

On our last grow we didn't have much success with Indica's at all, but we ended up doing all Indica's this time anyway. We chose to focus on the one strain and give it all our attention this time instead of feeding the same nutrients to different strains. How much was your average yielding plant vs what you got from the Albert Walker's?
