Is this technically allowed? I would have no objections if I were a participant, but I seem to recall Dawg getting in heat over his two part cup, never mind having a separate reservoir.

Shit I hope so.. I didnt tag along last year's competition and couldn't find the thread to read up on the rules, etc. Ultimately thats the Dawgie dawg's call. I considered doing soil to not be 'that guy,' but I would fuck somethin ugly in soil... My only defense is that with the netpots's and airstones in place- 16 oz.'s puts me right about a 1/2" under my hydroton (just get to look forward to a lot of topoffs...) Im using an seperate orange solo cup as my top off, res change cup so I can mix it in one cup and make sure it's mixed/right reading. I do think hydro's vigor is something to think about, but not mine. lol.

I DID figure out that 16oz- is .125 of a gallon (an eighth), soooo... I usually run 5-7 gallons in my res... 8x5 gives me... a 40th of what my 'usual' dosage is. lol. So much for upper hand in hydro o.0

^^^8-14-13 (tonight) I recently snagged up an IR thermometer so I have been going ballistic around Narnia with this thing, my temps were 73's with the light where I had it at 26+", I went ahead and dropped it down to 18" even, took and reading and sat in the 75's. I went ahead and dosed with .25ml of Protekt, after ph'ing it gave me 100ppm (a drop of down), JUST to be safe. lol

That's funny, I've been busier than a one-legged man in a bicycle race.I've squared away my grow closet,as best as I can,cords and plugs tucked away,repainted walls a little,aluminum taped the whole floor,hung t5s,rewired the fans in my grow box with the solos.

Not gonna lie,this is a little shameless self promoting,i'm proud of these fixtures I made and the way I cleaned up the closet.Its not like I can show anyone else.

Im not 100% sure but I dont think this is legal to this particular competition. In the other thread Dawg made it clear that the root system had to be contained in one single 16oz party cup and could not be double stacked..You may want to confirm it with Dawg that this is legit

The second cup doesn't contain any roots, or never will at least. It's there more for top offs, water levels, and to contain an actual 14-16oz of water; compared to half a solo cup giving me 6-8oz in a hydro set up. How many cu. ft. of soil can you guys fill in there? Hopefully dawg will chime in and let us know.

Going into the third week of growth,I topped purple(08-11) and black(08-14).Not much else going on,as I said above I rewired the computer fan in the box,it turns on and off with the lights.

Well, I think an argument for the reservoir cup is that it is a proper scaled-replica of a DWC set-up. And it's going to need constant root pruning to keep from choking. So the trade-off is more attention paid to maintenance. Whereas, in the soil cup there is the option for root trimming; however, it is unlikely to be exercised by anyone.

Personally, I just want to see how that plant will grow, and if there will be any noticeable difference vs. Dawg's winner from comp #2.
The genetics are going to be an obvious variable that can't be imputed, but the general output should be similar ceteris paribus.
So really, my interest is mostly for empirical data.
