after painfully waiting i finally opened one of my northern lights' jars of +4 months curing. i've smoked 2 month cures but it compares little to the
4 month two week cure. so smooth and tasty. now that's the way to start a new year!! happy new year all.

Only problem I've had with long cures like this is mold showing up. I started vacuum sealing with jars and that really helped. I started out using something called a Pump and Seal but bit the bullet a couple of years ago and picked up a cheap FoodSaver and the Wide Mouth Jar attachment on eBay. I dry/cure over about a 3 week period and when I have the moisture level right where I want it, I vacuum seal it. I've got one jar that's been sealed now for 3.5 years that I'll open in another 1.5 years.

Damn, never heard of 5yr old smoke. It would be interesting to see if it has lost potency and how much if so. I dry for around 5-7 days and then into jars, burping several times a day for the first 3 days and then once a day for a week and then burp every 2-3 days for a total of about 20-30 days cure. Happy New Year to you too!

It shouldn't lose any potency if sealed good n proper. i have always dried then put them in the jar with 10-20 minute burps once a day. however once it goes into jar i start smoking it... so it starts getting right about halfway through the second jar. 1 oz per jar. the 4th jar and any after that are always A+, longs cures are nice

Thats good to hear! I will have to try the vacuum sealed bags when I get enough to keep long term. I do the same, as soon as they go into jars I start smoking and it does get a lot better with each jar. My brother grew out some pineapple chunk, White Widow and vanilla kush that gave him around 6 zips per plant and were so frosty and strong smoke too but, the curing didn't go so well for him (His first grow). Some of the bud got a little mildew smell from not burping enough and the other I believe dried to fast before going into jars and it just didn't have the strong smell or taste to it like I think it should've had but, it was still really good smoke. The pineapple chunk was some of the strongest I've smoked. Me and him were just talking about how important proper drying and curing is. you can do everything right through the whole grow and have great looking and smelling plants but, if you don't dry and cure properly it just won't have the smell and taste that you really want. Not that the stuff wasn't good to smoke but, if your going to put that much work into growing and caring for them for that long you want everything there, smell, taste, bag appeal and potency. Nirvana!

Awesome thread! Thats great, after two years and still good smoke! Good info, now I'm going to get some stored away the same way so ill be better prepared for the zombie apocalypse, if it ever happens. ( Im keeping my fingers crossed). Thanks for the awesome report, it was cool to see 2 yr old bud still looking sticky and not all dried the heck out and still able to give you a kick ass buzz!
