I do not grind heatsinks down or polish them, I know some members on here do. I have not had any issues with the heatsinks as they come. I simply remove the pre-applied thermal grease with an alcohol soaked towel. Dry the heatsink and apply adhesive (I did not use led holders) and apply the LED.

I have mine wired in series so that the voltage adds up and they share the same current. Series wiring is simple and a quick forum search you can find tons of diagrams.
36v(each) * 4(quantity) = 144v @ 1.4a = ~200w

TY you guys very much for the help. I have lots of experience assembling computers, hehe i made myself look very noob but for the heatsink part i thought the LED holder would be too big for that exact heatsink and needed to be grinded down to flat!

When I wire them in series will it automatically be on 36v each? or is there any setiings on the driver that have to be set?
Haven't gotten any of the parts yet so are just trying to get as much info on how to put everything together now before it arrives.

I will def put out some pictures when everything is done!

No adjustment was needed with mine, i know some have voltage/current potentiometers. The voltages will vary slightly depending on heat (as you can see on the leds spec sheet), but in general you hook them up and turn them on and they all draw what they can/need. The physically cooler you keep them the more efficient they will run.

The leds draw different amounts of voltage when they have different temperature. But the current stays the same throughout, that is why you want constant current drivers. So you do not need to do anything to the drivers to get them to deliver the right amount of voltage.

After reading some more of @SupraSPL cob reflector thread I decided to try and maximize the efficiency of my lights.
I was intruiged by the fact that he was getting +%13 from basic reflectors made from paint and yogurt. I decided to give it a shot.

I used the top 1/4 of a 2 liter pop bottle for each reflector. I simply cut the hole big enough to fit around my leds and wiring, but small enough to still be in the area of the heatsink. I then wrapped it in some reflective tape I had. This cost me absolutely nothing.

After building and attaching them I noticed a definite difference in the light spread and intensity. Light spread was much smaller (I cut the 2 liter bottle bigger and trimmed down to the approx size I wanted) and the intensity seems to have increased as well. I can feel heat a few inches lower now!

This is for my veg lights, tomorrow when I can go into my closet I will be adding more of these reflectors to my 3070s!

Just wanted to share my experiences with you all!

Here is the comparison on my cxb3070s. One reflector one and one off, I made these by eyeballing and have no way to measure the difference at this time.

With the reflector I think the difference is clear, this was held the same distance from both leds, as you can see the spread is much more focused and intense. A lot less light shooting away from my babies!!!!

Just an update:

Got all of the reflectors on and mounted the lights on the inside of the brackets instead of on the outside where I had them.
The light spread is much better imo. Definitely a lot more intense over the whole canopy, I did raise the lights slightly because it was warmer.

All females! A look at how they are coming along..

So I was reading up on introducing UV. After reading some lengthy info from @stardustsailor, I decided to go purchase a basic reptile CFL from my local pet store. I got there and saw 20w ReptiGlo 24" T8 tubes, Reg 33.00 on clearance for 8.77 a piece!!! These have 5% uvb, and based on my readings, should be sufficient to run on the same timer since they are of lower UVB ratings.

I went to Lowes and picked up a single T8 fixture with on/off switch and plug for wall for $15


So
T8 fixture (20w) - Lowes - $15
(Bought 2) 20w Replitglo 24" T8 tubes - Petco - $18

Total - $33 for a UV light and replacement bulb


Not too shabby?

~2x2 growing area.

i'm thinking about the dimensions of the frame for my lamp , but before i begin to cut alluminium wanted to ask the dimensions of your frame here and also what space do you use it for?

24"x11" roughly. It's slightly under 11" wide but we used the heatsink / driver as a template

this is the response i hoped to receive... i'm building my light with almost the same dimensions relatively to the grow room/tent.

How is this light working out for you so far? Do you feel that you could have shortened the frame a bit to have a more even spread in the middle? Perhaps the other way around and you wish the ones that were closer, were further apart? I think I'm going to just about copy you on this one as I don't know enough about matching drivers to lights, and everyone is raving about how perfect these 4 cobs are for that driver.

I have my 5 leds on a 12"x18" baking sheet over a 12 gallon tub w/homemade reflectors and here are my results so far. I had root issues in week 3 of 4 in veg and since then they have been doing well. Not sure what the yield is going to be but I only had them under one cxa3070 3k and 3 100w cfl cool white lights until 1st week of flower, then I added the 4 CXBs.

These pics are about 4 days old. ~4 week into flowering
