4 or 9 plants for 4x4 under 100w HPS?

I'm running a 4x4 tent with an air cooled 1000w HPS, and I will also be doing SCROG. I'm growing in hempy buckets, which is basically a mix of soil-less and DWC. Strain is fem White Widow from BCseedking

I've got 4 seeds started, but its not too late to start some more... So considering my space, light, and methods, would 4 or 9 plants be better?

12 to 4 feet high in 3 month in 3 us gallon pots is quite feasible
but heat will be an issue and its vital that you have a balanced extract system,
even more so should you attach a carbon filter

...but you need to explain how you intend to do a scrog and 9-12 plants at the same time in the same tent? ...lol

confused ,,..lol

I've got a 6 inch inline fan pulling through my carbon filter, through my light hood, and out the tent. I can buy a second inline fan and run the filter and hood on separate lines if temp becomes an issue.

I built my SCROG screen out of PVC and wire, and it goes across my tent. The tent has a door on the front but also doors on the 2 sides, so I could reach all the plants to bend them down. The access isnt a problem, I'm just wondering if 4 or 9 plants would yield more. 4 plants can grow bigger but 9 is obviously more than twice as many plants, so I don't know which would yield more.

My cantonments are 4x4 tent 1x 600 hps, 9 plants in 3 gallon pots in organic soil for 3 months
including 1x month veg, 1x 6 inch extraction fan and carbon filer, used in the last month, only

to give you some idea ...good luck

So do you think 9 plants would be better than 4 in that space?

The amount of plants will make very little difference to the end yield as ur screen will fill up with 1 node per square so 1 cola per square too many plants will make it hard to under trim ur scrog I'd go 4 plants and u will need a 400w hps for that grow 100w per plant

What throws me with this post is the SCROG, (screen of green) the new name for the old sea of green(SOG) really the only place I've seen SCROG done really well is with just one very large plant taking up all of a 4x4 tent, don't get me wrong its quite feasible with 2-4 plants if you have the room, if you decide to go SCROG and have not done it before, go just 2 plants for the first run, adding more as your experience grows each grow, or go conventional as in my initial post

I did white russian, 6 in a 4x4 with lst and it was a sight to behold lol. There was plants everywhere at the end. They would come flying out the door when I opened it. Also I only vegged them for 30 days and they topped out over 7', I now do 4. My trays have 6 sites but I typically only use the best of them and kill the runts.

Seems like 2 plants might fill the space. I have always wanted to try scrog, but like to take my plants out of the tent for trimming and watering etc so I just LST. Same basic effect.

Keep us posted.

Never done scrog either as I cant wait long enough to grow out the plant properly tot top it enough and the amount of plants does matter if you only have 4x4 to work with. You can do 6 but they will suffer for it. In my very limited experience you'll do better with 4. What ever you choose keep us posted!

4 sounds like a good number to start with, the biggest problem is you haven't seen how the plant grows in veg or stretches in flower.. also theres diff phenos for each strain and one could be way better or worse for sog.. definitely consider mothering them all, take a clone from each and put into flower so you can choose the best one for sog. but hey, that's probably way more than most people want to do so 4 is a great number to start with.

I think you should reconsider considering the surroundings of your grow space. That 1000 is going to heat yours and neihbors house. If youve never used like a tube and ballast before id start of with a 400-600w system. That 1000 is a powerful force to be reckoned with. And id do at least 4 plants. Because scrogging 9 your definately going to need more space. And depending onhow long you veg. But i feel your ambition. Grow wise and becareful. Good growing.:peace:

I had to look at my tent again and im going to change my mind and say six plants. Although id rock a 600w mh/hps on them. Consider your veg time. Depending also on your pots.
