Gonna add another 4 x4 grow. will not be vegged there only flowered. The area has to be heated in winter and cooled in the summer so the common disadvantages of hps and leds, flors are actually benificial at certain times of the year. initial cost (if not to crazy) is not a problem. So from everyones experience , not just hear say. What would you do???

I wouldn't go any lower than a 400 HPS in that space. CFLs and LEDs are a false economy, especially in larger areas.

well my first question it is indoors right? if so, why would it really need to be heated in the winter? lights give off ALOT of heat. in fact you would have more problems tryin to lower the heat instead of raising it. it also depends on what your growing in i.e. a closet, a rubbermaid bin, a wodden box, etc. plz give us more details

If you've never had heat problems before, put a 1000w in a 4x4 grow closet. You will definitely learn a lot about ventilation, or your plants will suffer from heat stress, or you'll say F-it and buy a 600w.

1000W lights are obviously awesome, and do a better job of penetrating the canopy than 600w, but they are usually better for people who have large rooms and large grows.

Look into efficiency rates of 600w vs 1000w and then make your decision.

cfl's are out not enough power, to many wires outlets plugs etc... and to answer cannabolics question, it is in 4x4 "closet" a detatched toolshed. it is currently -3 degrees where i am and there is frost on the inside walls of the shed from the moisture from my other grow in there. I have 1000w in there now and needs a heater to stay @ 80. Enviromental issues can be controlled. Question is what is best 4 a 4 x 4 area or 16sq/ft. from reading ideal lighting would be 50w per sq. 600w is only 37.5. 1000w is 62.5. i'm sure over doing it would cause less problems than under lighting?

Where you're heat [or should i say cold] problem is is during the dark cycle. No lights to heat the room=cold girls. Get a small space heater and use it on the cold nights. Look for one thats rated or suggested for a small room [5x5 or smaller], and it shouldn't be very big. If you're super-concerned and super lazy, invest your time and extra 30$ to get a thermostat. It'll be a bigger pain in the short run, but in the long run it'll be worth tenfold what effort and money you spent.

Get the 1000w watt. You can scrape by with a 600w, but the product won't be nearly the quality or quantity you'd get with a 1000w. Also, if you have the cold working in your favor like this, then you'll have less problems with heat in you light cycle.

ok i get what your saying now. you need like a space hearter or somthing. get a small space heater and pout it as close to the plants as you can without burning them. and i think you should be fine bro.

I have a heater in my other room now. I have all the other equipment to control the temps when i build the other room. I have a 24v step down transformer supplying power to 2 programmable thermostats. one for heat to control daytime temp and a programmed 10 degree drop at night. the other one is there to kick on ventalation or ac when needed. then from the thermostats to the 24v/120 relays to turn on the heat/fans as needed. You can make this stuff yourself from parts from McMaster Carr.com they used to order all our electrical stuff from there before they closed the plant down. Hell they carry everything. 90 bucks plus wire for a diy programmable temp system, hell add a humidistat too. Thats why i said temps arent a concern.

Pic of my current girls. The one has a little heat stress from before i got the temps set right.

if u are gonna vent well, get the 1000w. I use a 600w in the same space and have some temp issues (too low). The lamp doesn't exactly heat up the room, and 1000w would be hot right under the lamp and prob burn stuff. 1000w will get you more, but vent the hood, and have good air flow if you chose that
