4 x 8 table lighting ideas

What’s up guys I’d like to see opinions on the most efficient lighting setup for a 4 x 8 table I have in a small room. I just finished a run with 2 630w cmh (one on each side) with a double ended hps at 600w in the middle and yield was lacking - light spread was everywhere.

I was thinking of running 2 double ended hps at 1k watts each in more traditional style hoods with detached ballast, or going back to 2 single ended 1k hps open magnum xxxl style hoods.

I have a mini split in the room so heat isn’t an issue but 8’ ceilings and stretchy strains. So I’m not sure if I will have issues running double ended at full power.

DE's are better suited to larger grows where you are lighting an area and not just the plant directly under the light. Overlapping lights and whatnot.

The AC DE hoods may be more what you want for spread with a DE.

TBH for a 4x8 setup you described I would just stick with two SE 1kW HPS. It's perfect for that setup.

two 650s would do a good job I would have to think at least.
For sure, if he is inclined to go LED they would rock that space, just have to dim them a little and make sure he runs a warmer canopy temperature.

I have nothing against HPS, CMH, MH and the like, they have their place, I still use them. Really great results can be achieved with high quality LED lighting. Just don't buy a crappy LED. Beware of LED's that have false wattage numbers, like saying it's a "2000" when it only draws 600w. Bad engrish in their descriptions is another red flag. There are some good chinese lights on alibaba but you have to know what you are looking at with those.

I’d love to run some of the new led’s but I don’t have 2k to drop on a couple of those right now. I did run the ac/de’s once and I got rid of them because they were too bulky. It was like a good 12” or more from the top of the hanger to the glass so they hung a bit too low and I got some light burn.

So I was thinking of either a pair of the more downward/4x4 focused DE hoods with remote ballasts, or the traditional magnum/raptor SE style big hoods with no glass and no ducting. I’m thinking the DE’s still might be too intense though dialed all the way up to 1k. Another option would be 3 DE fixtures at 600 watts...

Have you considered just running the 2k de or se or your cmh and using a light rail/mover, a decent rail kit for 2 lights is the price of hid light, might stop the hot spots and let you run that sunshine. I was checking them out after @OldMedUser told me about his. They look like you can mount them pretty close the the ceiling and run open hood.

I'm still planning to run two 600W SHPS back to back with open batwing hoods on the light rail to cover the 4' x 8'6" space I've yet to build but am being forced to so I can grow out all the plants I have going now and be able to do any breeding for fem seeds. I saw my buddy on a trip to the city on Monday and along with a few strains of seeds, some pot and even 1000year old tobacco seeds he gave my about 15 bare rooted clones from his cloner that he was going to toss out. Monkey Banana Kush. He has the mother and 4 plants from it about ready to flower in an 8x4 tent in his basement. Really nice looking plants.

I had them in the fridge since and just potted 10 of them tonight. The 6 biggest in 1L pots and 4 smaller ones in little 3" square nursery pots. Just checked and they're drooping super bad so made a Mickey Mouse humidity dome with a clear garbage bag and lots of water sprayed around.

I innoculated the roots with this myco stuff called DynoMyco that was developed over 30 years research into the right stuff to use for pot in Israel and is made there. Buddy swears by it and it ain't cheap but you don't need much.

I think a lite mover is a good idea here...use an open hood reflector or the bat wing(on a budget)I was in a pro growers container set up some time ago,he had 2..4x8 tables and each with the light mover set up to grow his starter plants, all looked perfect...simple no moving parts for the water system.Tables of 2x4 and concrete blocks, hole in tray at 1 end, bucket under to catch run off,DTW,fill tray 1 time a day with full 5 gallon bucket of liquid nutes.Cooling w/mini split, save drain water,re-use.Fill 4x8 with 6" pots I think it held 240 or so?MH600w or 1000w

I have 4 4x40x12 tables 25 tons of ac and 32 hlg 650r‘s on their way to replace the 32 DE’s I have. Damn electric bill is high. Not to mention my setup includes 2 anden 320’s. The only thing I hate is my trolmaster cant be used to control the 650’s as of now.
hps is losing its footing even in commercial setups. Too many people are finding out the quality leds work wonderfully and can more than keep up or exceed what traditional lighting can do. @Kushfan look at some quality leds
