i'm so sorry officer, i had no idea that red light meant 'stop'.
Why do we have red lights? What is their purpose? If you can answer what the intention of having to stop at a red light is you will have won more respect from me.

Hey UB, you are on ignore becuase your last argument involved making fun of my dead mother in a gangbang...

When you cant bring an argument to the table you bring insults. Dont really have time for someone who breaks down into a 2nd grader when they dont get their way.

sorry, when someone like you comes around, i simply can not help myself.

i mean, how *could* i resist?

you say things like "i would have started all these businesses, but obama got elected". and other gems like "your kids will have to pay 80% of their income to keep social security going".

unless you make *some* effort to be taken seriously, i will continue to match absurdity with absurdity.

so gary coleman, jesus, and lou gehrig walk into a bar...

not really looking for any respect from you, but i would say that the intention of having to stop at a red light is to help regulate the flow of traffic.

perhaps you will reply about how naive i am, and cite colorado springs' recent experiment as some type of blanket proof that i am wrong, i don't care.

but i am interested in knowing what you consider to be the purpose of red lights.

Traffic signals do not bother me. They have a legitimate purpose and you stated it quite succinctly.

Red light cameras are another thing entirely. They cause collisions and there is ample evidence that they exist for one purpose and it ain't public safety. The purpose of red light cameras is to generate revenue.

If I commit a violation, I want that ticket handed to me by an actual peace officer. RoboCop should stay where he belongs: In Hollywood.

Aside from all that, I chafe at the notion of being under surveillance by law enforcement, or any other government authority. The words 'police state' and 'big brother' come to mind when I think of those damned cameras.

Seems like someone didn't do their home work.. Lot of tax breaks rewarded for someone starting new business right about now. Sounds like someone wanted to hate Obama just because...lol..I was able to get new equipment ( energy saving ) at damn near free price behind some of the stuff Obama put forth..also opened my third Laundromat last year...do your damn homework or you will continue to lose out and sound like a complaining old lady..

Over the last 2 years the government has added more than 3 TRILLION dollars to the debt. Tax breaks right now are not going to compensate for the enormous interest payments on the debt. That is what your kids are saddled with.

So, unless you teach them how to build businesses and become the rich, you know, the people you hate... They are going to have to pay for all this spending on fixed incomes working for the rich, you know, the people you hate.

Meanwhile the rich will continue to raise the prices on goods and services to compensate for inflation and they will continue to get rich while your kids fight to just manage to pay for food and fuel because the government has devalued the dollar to the point where most people just cant make ends meet...

It is the government that is destroying the middle class and causing the divide and people just dont see that.

So, if the purpose of a red light is to help regulate the flow of traffic then does it make sense to get a ticket for running a red light at say 3 am, when there is no traffic to regulate?

What your wife is trying to infer is that we need all these new laws all the time to regulate (Control) the populace from doing anything the Government does not condone. Doesn't matter if its not harming anyone. Like those stupid blue laws, for example the law that makes oral sex a crime.

While the "crime" of oral sex may not be prosecuted, the fact that a law is on the books regulating behavior of consenting adults is abhorrent to a free society. If you believe that "it may be a crime, but no one gets arrested for it, so who cares?" consider the following: in Texas, it is illegal to sell sex toys designed to look like actual genitalia. Beyond that, it is a felony to possess six (6) or more of these devices, as this is considered "intent to distribute." It's also illegal to possess, promote or sell "obscene" material. What's obscene? Texas law follows Potter Stewart's quote: "I know it when I see it," which is ridiculous - you have no idea if you are breaking the law until someone decides that you are, based on personal opinion of "obscenity."

Sure, in Houston and Dallas these devices may be freely sold, but it is still technically illegal. And "technically illegal" is all some arbiters of morality need. In October 2006, police officers in Beaumont arrested nine people and confiscated hundreds of "obscene" items from three different stores.
How did this happen? Someone complained about the stores and police purchased a few items from each of them. They took the items to a local judge who looked at them and deemed them "obscene," then issued warrants.

The kicker: employees at the stores are subject to prosecution, just like the owners. And if police have any records of customers, they could legitimately get warrants issued for them as well.

The punishment in Texas for having "obscene" materials? One year in jail, $4000 fine. At best (assuming a jury sees how absurd the law is), you have an arrest record. All based on one person's opinion.

So just saying "No one is prosecuted under that law, so don't worry about it" is not enough. At any time some Judge Roy Bean might decide to string you up over it.

We do need to cut spending, no doubt. we should start with the defense department, they are corrupted beyond repair and yet its always "oh no, defense spending cant ever be cut, thats off the table.". If you want to talk about goverment waste and corruption look at them. We should bring all our people home and cut defense spending drastically. These wars have gone on for far too long but their is so much money in defense department contracts and their kickbacks.....

lol..dude by all means keep doing what you doing..sitting on the sidelines complaining. Now myself I'm going to see how I can make ANY situation work for me...I don't sit around thinking that the government is out to get me...Now I do believe we at times vote dumb folks in ( Bush ).. I myself take the time to find out the reason why the government has to do something it has to do..Sometimes I agree sometimes I don't..but please believe I just don't sit around on a weed forum complaining about how bad it is with out going out to do something about it...geez..I took the time to look at your post ( ouch my head hurts ) and find that you remind me of that little Hen ( Henny Penny ) that thought the sky was falling..Man go run for office and see what you can change. By the way I don't hate rich people..I have plans to become one, but I also realize that people will make me rich by supporting my establishments..I in turn will ALWAYS give back to others that might not have had the luck that I had.

As you should. I donate to charity and recommend other people do so as well.

Taxation is not voluntary, it is confiscatory. I am against excessive taxation, not charity.

government rises from the consent of the governed.

thus, government taxation arises from consent of the governed to be taxed.

this is what makes me laugh every time i hear a libertarian say "well, my views are what the founding fathers *really* wanted".

that is irrelevant.

the governed decide the direction the country takes with their votes.

and the governed have decided on taxes, voluntarily.

taxes are voluntary, dude.

and before any libertarian comes in and spouts "i never gave my consent to be taxed!"

let me point out, that is why you are a libertarian. because you don't get this concept that you are part of a greater society.

and whatever you're about to say, answer me this first: how did income taxes come about? did a king come in and decree that the 16th amendment be so? did an authoritarian dictator mandate that income taxes be aid? or was it passed in accordance with the foundation of government that our founding fathers laid out?

think about it for a second.

Big Debates still rage over whether or not the 16th amendment was ratified correctly or not. Let sleeping dogs lie, there are lots of legal ways to keep from paying taxes. Get a llama farm, pay no taxes.

They supposedly have many times, but the crooks find ways around them. Both parties have said they want to cut all fraud, but thats not completely possible, even if we were to privatize it or whatever the business sector is by no means fraud free either, see all those people who got busted scamming and shit the last few years. they are probally an insanely small percentage of the actual cases that never get discovered too. So whats your idea to fix it?

actually, i would prefer a 16th amendment debate, as it is one of the most hotly debated amendments nowadays. the fair tax actually does not seem a horrible idea, but i would like to see it under more scrutiny.

before i forget (pretty high right now)....i used to live near a couple llamas and they creeped me out for some reason, however llama farm sounds like a good little niche. where is the money in llamas? fur? meat? eggs? pets?

i had something else i was gonna say, but i am too stoned to even type right now.
