Get one of these.

Pull the filter out there is a dryer sheet looking thing (arm and hammer filter) you can take this out and replace with dryer sheet for added oder protection or just leave the default one in. When you have removed this sheet you will see the real hepa filter it is rigid like this |\/\/\/\/\/\/|. Go to petco and look in the fish filter section for activated carbon 5$ bottle will be more then enough. Poor as much activated carbon into those grooves as you can then replace the arm and hammer sheet or dryer sheet whatever you choose thats it! Worked for my room not a huge one but 6 plants and no smell at all.

I have one of these here:

http://www.lowes.com/pd_334093-74309-04530GM_0__?productId=3306338&Ntt=hamilton+beach+air+purifier&pl=1&currentURL=/pl__0__s?Ntt=hamilton+beach+air+purifier

I use it along with an Ona block. Total cost of $12 maybe. The air filter plugin cost me $7.99 at Lowes, it came with "green meadow" scented refills. It has a little carbon filter, and the scented thing. I have the Ona block almost completely closed. I can't smell anything but the "green meadow", and a little of the Ona. My grow area is pretty small, 2 x 2, with 5 small plants, all 16" and under.

Once the filter needs replacing, I will modify the thing and see what I can do to it, those replacement filters cost more than the unit. Activated charcoal is pretty cheap at the pet store.

I almost bought one of those bigger fan + carbon filters, for like $150. But for a 2 x 2 area, that is a little much. What I have is working great. Doubt it'd work for a larger grow though.

Now that's what I've been looking for. Nice idea. I looked at some that were a bit more before. Is it a mess once you cram the charcoal in there? Wonder if there are carbon filters that would fit that as well, the one on the back you are talking about. Dryer sheets sounds good too, but seems to me you'd have to replace them frequently.

I saw a replacement filter listed on target too, so I can visualize what you're saying now. It lays flat and has a bunch of ridges to fill. Yeah, doesn't look too messy. I'm going to do this too, as I'm on a budet as well. Congrats on the little girl.

Haha thanks man just make sure you keep the dryer sheet looking thing as it is a little thicker and will hold all the activated carbon in place, petco or is def the place for carbon 5$

Will do. Ill understand moe when I crack it open. Good tip on PetCo too, wonder if Petsmart has it as well? They are the place near here.

Im sure they would, any place with an abundance of fish tanks and filters should have it. Its used in every fish filter to keep the smell down.

I would love to see some quick pictures of the Holmes filter and the fill process of the actual filter. Sound like it should work really well!

Thanks!

Phone Camera quality... But here it is as requested the inner workings are like this; And it should be effective for up to 2200 square feet filter sais, but id go with up to 6 plants is what i have and it works! might get another one there so cheap and also have helped with dust and allergens in my house; And on another note everyone probably knows this already but pet stores have more precise PH testers for water then a plant store usually as the ones at the plant store are wide range and the ones at pet stores only test between 5-8 more precise readings

No problem man, i thought it was a great idea glad you agree, lets just keep in mind this will not work for more then 6 plants. But theres always the option to make to for 75$ instead of 120 for a decent one.

My grow now is only 2 plants, so no big deal. Plus, if and when I get a cabinet designed and built, I can just use that unit in whatever room I choose to smoke in. Simple, effective odor control.

Got it. Going to get the carbon tomorrow. Do you leave the ionizer thingy on or off? I'm leaving it off for now, as I don't want to burn this thing out too quick. Especially since its running 24/7. Notice any difference with it on or off? Killer idea, gonna work great I'm sure.

Also another thought crush the activated carbon (dont inhale wear mask) and make more surface area of carbon available to scrub the air!

I leave the ionizer on! its supposed to attract the positive atoms in the air increasing airflow essentially and then the static in the stick to the negatively charged filter its really genious and helps keep it on, it was a killer idea right? i was so gassed as i was looking for a way to get a carbon scrubber and then just looked at that and thought o i can do this! saved me 120 bucks easy
