I am going to be moving into my own place in the near future and would like to make the switch from cfls to HPS/MH. This being said i would like to make/buy a tent 2x2x4-5 feet. Is 400 a ok way to go or should i go with a 150 hps and use cfls as well? Ive been trying to search all over and will keep searching but it would be a great help if anyone had suggestions.

Thanks

wow, yeah dude a 2 X 2 X 4 foot tent is really not big enough to have a 400watt system. I would stick with a 150 and use fluors like you said.

I suggest a middle ground, 250w HPS. You can use the same ballast with a CMH bulb for veg. You'll still need to vent the heat but it is worth it for 60+ watts per square foot.

Is it hot where you live? I'd say get a slightly bigger tent and go 400w and just vent extremely well, always go bigger in my opinion, otherwise you'll do it once and say, man, if only I'd had a 400 watter and not a 250
Between these two site, you'll have a hard time not finding everything you'll need!

I have a 2x2x5 grow tent and I use my 150 w HPS in it. Works great. But u really cant flower too many plants in there with a smaller light.

Well i will be buying a exhaust fan along with the tent. The reason i was gonna go 400 is because the one i was looking at was switchable between MH and HPS. I was thinking maybe ill just use cfls for veg, im planing on growing auto flowers. I would just use one of the containers im using now for a veg box. My ideal goal would be to harvest every two weeks, i mean that is if a 150 would be good enough to flower two plants at once...

The 150 im looking at now : http://superiorgrowers.com/products.php?p=2329&gid=1&pname=SUN SYSTEM 4 - 150 HPS&section=1

The 400 setup i WAS looking at: http://superiorgrowers.com/light_package_products.php?grow=&light=7&prop=&kit=7

my tent is roughly 4'X4'X6.5 and i use a 400w MH/HPS heat is sometimes a problem and i even have a strong exhaust system and cooling tube for the light. i never used a 150w but with that size tent i think it would be the better choice.

heres what danny danko from high times says as far as space. hers the source http://hightimes.com/microsites/beginners/go_indoors.inc.php

Approximate Lighting Requirements
250-watt HID for a 2' x 2' space.
400-watt HID for a 3' x 3' space.
600-watt HID for a 4' x 4' space.
1,000-watt HID for a 5' x 5' space.

im sure if you even went 250 instead you will be fine.
