400 watt hps closet grow!

Hey fellas! So I'm growing a few plants in my closet, I've got a master kush, gorilla glue, and a super glue from clone, they're under a 400 watt hps I'm gonna veg em for a few weeks then start to flower. the room is more rectangular. And I don't want the plants getting more than about 5 feet tall. What is a good time to start flowering? And I'll probably be posting pics alot so if you have any questions I'll be here!!! Thanks! :)

Why Red Spectrum straight from the get go? Why not more Blue/White spectrum?

Your light being that high up those plants are going to get tall and stringy, really quick

I'd change to a mh bulb until you flower. Keep it about 1.5' away. Probably flower around 12" tall would put it at a 36" to 48" plant. Imo

Only bevause a few friends told me vegging AND flowering with my hps would be fine and I'd get better quality nugs. And I flipped my sliding mirrors around so they're facing the plants so I've got tons of light in that bitch if they start stretching I'm definitely gonna lower the lights

I wouldn't trust what those friends say anymore =)

As Mr Goodtimes said - MH for Veg HPS for Flower

I do realize that mh is best for veg because of the spectrum, but I didn't really want to buy two different bulbs.. but it is what it is. As long as I get some decent flower :)

You would almost be better doing your Veg under CFL's then. Cheap and easy to come by.

I would have to agree that you would be better off vegging under some c.f.l.s. and i wouldn't flip your doors around either. Mirrors absorb light not reflect it. Paint your closet with white paint and get some plastic on the floor or some catch trays for the run off

Yea if he dropped a few bucks into CFL's and some Mylar this wouldn't be too bad of a setup.

My walls are pure white inside, cfls would work but I don't really have a room, time, money to buy anything worth the month I'm going to be vegging. I think the ballast is mh/hps. If it is ill buy the mh bulb. :)

I grow mine 12-12 from seed. I average plants from 4-5 feet. My Sativa's are a little over 5 feet. Including bucket

You can grow from seed to weed under HPS, just got to be careful while they're seedlings to get the distance right so they don't get cooked but not to far they stretch. Mine vegged fine under a 400watt HPS.

They can double or even triple in size after you flip. Things to factor in when working out what size you can grow to is plant pot height and distance from canopy to light. You need to take both of those off your grow space height to come up with a maximum plant size height. You can always bend/super crop if you have to tho.

Yeah I just bought an MH, anyways because I hear that if you flower under mh the buds are going to be better quality. So I'll just flower and veg under mh. and I'm running lowes buckets. So theyve got quite a bit of room for roots to grow..

But as long as the plants stay under about 5 feet it'll be ok. And if I'm only vegging for a month I think that'll be perfect

Hey guys sorry if im cutting in but what do you think of this do you think shes ready? 12/12 from seed grow kerala x grape gum crossed by myself shes on week 12 both strains apparently are 10 weeks she has brown pistils everywhere but I think she could be a bit more frosty?DSC_0129.jpg DSC_0130.jpg DSC_0131.jpg DSC_0134.jpg

Go to Home Depot and get a 400w mh for like $20. They work just as good as the hortilux bullshit they sell at the hydro shop for $100.

Never seen a difference between the way the two grow

I agree with this. I have bought plenty of bulbs from home depot and they always worked great. Also, sort of looks like your over watering but hey never know, maybe you just watered. Get some plastic on the floor, paint the walls white, ditch the mirrors, and next time start in 1 gallon pots then transfer to full 5 gallon pots. Good luck and happy growing

P.s. I attached a picture, the two large plants in the back were begged with a MH bulb, and the ones in front were begged with an hps. The MH makes for closer node spacing, thus creating a bushier plant which we all thrive for!
