The 400 will be fine for quite a few mothers----I would use floro's or t'5 floro for the clones. Plants don't need that light in veg.

k thanks, so since i can use the 400 for the mothers, so can i use the 400 for veg?? this is the idea put the reflector hanging from the ceiling at a set height an just let everything grow, therefore my light isn't directly on the plants, but its not way above it would be like the sun to us, will this work.... an keep the t5s on the clones. :)

On my current grow I vegged 6 plants under a single 400w MH until they were about 20" tall and they did just fine. You might be able to do 8 if they are smaller/in smaller pots (I use 5 gallon pots that are about 12" wide). I would suggest rotating the plants around under the light every couple days, as well as turning the pots a half turn each day so that the plants on the outer edge don't start developing a lean towards the center. Even if you only have a couple plants going turning the pots and rotating them is a good idea, but it's absolutely essential if you're trying to fit more then 4 under a single 400w.

You can run ample vegging plants under a normal floro(say 4 to 8-----48" tubes). They may stretch a bit and grow a little slower than the use of the T-5's or MH/HPS but they will be fine. I have a med pat that is all about saving every penny and runs 4#- 5gal mothers under 1 reg floro 4 tube 32watt/tube. He mounted the unit at the top of ceiling at 6'. The mothers did stretch a bit but are very healthy and perfect for taking clones. He runs 2 white widows and 2 Super Silver Haze mothers. The plants are 5' tall. Again it doesn't take alot of light in veg. If you need short bushy plants fast then yes you would benefit from MH/HPS in veg and maybe a smaller number of mothers per light. I don't use T'5's for cloning. I use a single 32 watt floro over a standard root tray. Once they pop fuzzys then they get the T'5's. ( This is just one of many ways to achieve the same end result). I try to stick to a schedule of---------3 to 7 days for roots to pop, then 7 days for clones to root in transplanted containers, then off to the flowering room for the finale cycle.
