I’d go with hid over mars. You can look into quantum boards or cobs as an alternative.Torn on which light I should get, the HID kit is cheaper and is true to the number, I believe the led only puts out 200+ but can somehow keep up with a HID. What are your suggestions? I’m more so leaning towards the HID
Agreed, it will take two of those Mars lights to replace a 400w HID setup. Higher efficiency LEDs could do it with just about 200 real watts, but those will be a damn sight more expensive.If heat can be managed go with hid
Mars 400 is probably only 150w replacing maby 200w of hid. I would suggest a 315 cmh. If heat is an issue then 315 cmh in a cool tube droops the heat to that of a florecent... Meaning very little heat.

Also a watt is a watt. It doesn't matter it's a led or an hid. Watt is just a unit to measure energy transfer. In our case heat from the resistance of electronics. Be it circuitry or filaments
And the driver circuitry and design. A 1k hps lamp will produce about the same amount of btu as 1kw in led. However most led packages will produce more visible light than something like traditional hid or tungsten filiment for the same amount of current use. That's the whole premise behind led in every I dustry except canabis forums. I was wrong in a post I put up the other day, my tents 32”x32”x64” and the fan moves 440cfm, so is that good enough? Already planned on either a cool tube, or a hood that has glass on the bottom and can be hooked up to the fan. What would you recommend for that small of a space and that much heat?honestly, as someone who has used all these options, i think i'd go with a 600 watt hid, as long as you can get rid of the heat. they're way more efficient than a 400 watt light, and you'll get much better results. they don't produce enough more heat to make a difference if you're already buying a fan and filter for a 400 watt.

I'm also still not sure of the longevity of cmh in air cooled hoods. Something about spectrum shift because it's not a double envelope. At the end of the day in a sealed box a led is still going to warm the room as much as an equivalent lamp.
