each light would be in separate rooms....is there any light i could get for veg besides 400w mh that may be cheaper and possibly more efficient?

If you're using cfls to supplement hps during flowering, you're better off to use the blue cfls, since you'll already have plenty of red from the hps.

4-5 week veg,topping once and some supercropping should get you a 1.5oz - 2 oz roughly under a 400 watter,you might get more depending on strain.
