did you flower under a 600w or 1000w? my concern is if a lower watt veg light will make a big diff in 1000w flower im under the impression a plant only gets as big as the wattage but is that the case in 2 diff lights for veg and flower, another 1000w light with an mh would be the less exspensive route but with a 3 light rotation thats a lot of electric lol. i really do like the yield lab

Im not the most experience person around, but I've finished 2 grows, both were I vegged under 600watts and flowered under 1000. Both times I had big yields.
Everybody everywhere told me to stay away from t5s for vegging, so I did. Canopy penetration is the reason. A 400 watt hid will penetrate better than most t5s. If you want to shell out an excessive amount of cash for a really high powered t5, it will compete, but at that point you'd be better going with a cob led.
Now, I'm not sure how long you plan on vegging. My last grow, I vegged some chernobyl under a 600w mh for about 6 weeks, and the 600 had no problem penetrating the canopy. The growth was vigorous and with a 70$ fan and the right hood, I had no issues with heat. If you planned to veg for 2-3 months (not sure why you would) you might have problems with a 600w penetrating the lower branches.
I know I'm biased because I've only grown one way, but a 600 for veg and a 1000 for flower worked great for me. i did these grows in a 4x4 tent with 4 plants. I have no experience at hand with t5s, but everyone I talked with that had experience with em, says they are very inferior to hids.
All in all I'd recommend buying a 600 watt set up for veg if you can afford it. I spent roughly 600$ total setting up my 600 watt veg tent (not gonna lie, I went cheap and bought Apollo products off Amazon, but I had no issues with anything they sold me) , so it's really not too spendy. If not, i know most digital ballasts are dimmable as well, so you could potentially buy a dimmable 1000 watt set up and dim it 50% for veg, then go up to full power when you flower.
Hope some of that helps you in some way
