4ft t8 4 bulb floro shop light-remove plastic panel?

So I got a bunch of 4ft 4bulb t8 shop lights. Im gonna use one or two for starting seeds/plants. Already got 5000/6500k bulbs.Should I replace the opaque plastic "lens /diffuser" with a clear piece of plexi/glass/?? Just wondering if that panel is spreading the light out rather than concentrating it over the plants?

i would not replace it leave the cover off,i have 4ft 2 bulb t8 s i veg with and no covers of any kind at all on them.you dont want anything disrupting the light output

i got a single tube and i took the cover off too... i think its more so you dont hit and damage the bulb, just be careful around it

yeah i use these 4ft shoplights too with no cover at all. never broke anyone, theyr more durable than one would imagine, they have survived for years of growing 24/7

ok thanks. I might pick up a cheap light meter to see if theres any appreciable difference, and if I do Ill report back here.

save yourself the trouble and expense, it's been tried, even the most transparent glass diminishes some of the light...
