4x4 diy led light.

I'm looking to make a fixture to go into a 4x4x7ft tent that will have a 3x3 flood and drain table in it.

I'm undecided as to strips or cobs right now.

I'd like to run in the 640-720ish watt range. Perferably 3x hlg 240-xx drivers over two 320 drivers if the cost isn't that much more.

I think I'm also going to run in the 3500- 4000k range.

Any advice or suggestions?

I'm leaning towards using 27 4ft long eb bridgelux gen 2 strips using 3 you 240h-c700 driving and just crafting a frame out of angle aluminum or 80/20.

What's the priority? Budget>Efficiency or?

Wonder if you might want to throw in some high cri strips since your on multiple drivers?
Like a bulk of white 80cri with either some gen 3 90cri or some of cutters high ass cri solstrips on your 3rd driver?

Im a huge believer in strips, you can build a light with strips, run them very soft and get complete coverage across your canopy with good numbers, not too mention you can basically lay the lights on top of the plants without issue. Mine are usually 2" from tops at peak flower

if your gonna use it for full cycle, id go 3500k

Allowable Budget-> Results-> Efficiency.

I even considered four hlg 96 elite led boards on two hlg-480-54h for high power but I'm kind of just evaluating what $500-700 gets me, and I'm saving up over the next two months for that as I'm still working on on things.

Trying to be somewhat modular and overpower it, if i can, in case of like to just build out a 5x5 and use the 4x4 for veg with a 315 cmh when the time comes.

Penetration is a concern, but I have 45 days to root a clone a veg before I flip so yeah lol.

is that usd? if so, you shouldnt have much issue building something real nice for a 4x4 for $500-700usd......even in our Canadiana monopoly money, i could build a legit light for that $$$

You should also look into J series strips from Cutter, thats what i built my lights with and have been nothing but happy with the results. They are cost efficient compared to the Nichias and Solstrips and Photoboosts , but they still grow dank weed.

Cant go wrong with those bxebs tho, they and tried and tested and do a good job.

Usd, I can push it to $800 max, but that's with like grommets for aluminum/wires, wagos everything.
I dont think budget will be an issue, unless you decide to use the Nichia or sol strips or another expensive option. Using the bxebs or j series , you can easily cover a 4x4 with many many strips, ran super hella soft(wont even need heatsinks) for much less than 800 imo

pic below is a 3x4 fixture using Cutters Jseries(3000k 90cri) 18 x 2 foot strips on a 480w driver.

If you wanted to use 240w drivers, id go with 8-10 strips per driver.... that would have you running them at nominal(soft)

Using the bxebs the math is a little different.

What was your total pricing on that?

Cant do much better than that light for a 4x4 bud, unless you wanted to build your own and save a few bucks, otherwise , that light is as good as it gets or very close to it.

Personally, i love strip leds, so im a little biased, but anything HLG sells is gonna be top quality and their customer service is great if you listen to other growers who deal with them.

Yeah, they are high performance and fair priced. But they have other even higher cri strips too, but a chunk more expensive.
Problem with cutter.au is you can get lost in there, so many options.
I was looking at his border rider strips the other day, think I would try them if I didn't already have more lights than I need.

Ya those solstrips are nice, they are in a whole new price category tho for sure.

Yeah they seem to range from £18-40 , but I am kind of in awe of the spectral charts.
Yep, the look legit

Im going back to Cutter for more strips for my next builds, gonna have Mark customize some for me, Teknik is gonna help me out with setting up a real nice spectrum, im excited lol
