4x4 vs. 5x5

Hey I’m looking to add a second tent currently have a 2x4 and looking to go either 4x4 or 5x5. I don’t need to push out huge quantities so the extra 9 sq. Ft isn’t a factor to me.

is going to a 5x5 rather than a 4x4 going to significantly increase the startup cost as far as a stronger light, bigger job cooling, etc.?

I do like the idea of using a 5x5 with a 4x4 footprint for ease of access, or are the plants just going to fill out the whole space anyways? Which size would you guys recommend for just expanding as a hobby grower? I’m just afraid of getting the 4x4 and regretting not going bigger, unless it means significantly bigger startup costs and a ton more work

Not really, if you get one of the 600+ watt bar lights like the Mars Hydro FC-6500 I'm using now, it will fit perfectly in a 4x4, but work fine in a 5x5-you just need to dial it in for that space. I run it at 80% in a 4x4, but I can see running it higher in a 5x5 at 100% easy. If I could snap my fingers and magically turn my 4x4 into a 5x5 but leave everything else the same I would. More space is always appreciated once you get going in this hobby. If you add more plants, factor in the extra time it will take to care for them.

I just went back and forth on this as I needed a bigger tent than my 2x4. Ultimately I chose 4x4 based on footprint and light cost. With all other things being equal as far as equipment cost, I wanted to get a higher end bar light to fill out my 4x4 instead of getting a cheaper light for a 5x5.

Go for the 5x5. The extra space is good to have.

I made the jump from 4 x 4 to 5 x 5. I was running about 450 wall watts and a 4 inch inline. Now in the 5 x 5 I have a spider farmer sf4000 450 wall watts and a king plus 250 wall watts. 450+ 250= 700 wall watts. Now I did upgrade to an 8 inch inline taking heat outside. I have two 4 inch fans up at the top of my tent one tower fan and an oscillating fan down at the floor. Very good air circulation. A I can run the lights at 100% if need to but I'm running at 80% currently. I only have to run the ac infinity inling at about 50% to keep temps around 79-81 degrees.

well if SPACE is not a limiting factor, than a 5x5 if the price is not too different.

Price is close, especially if you go out of season. Coming up on lots of indoor growing weather. Cooler easier to maintain rh and temps. I vent outside so no problem, in fact I'm running now, just flipped to 12's. But come March April prices indoor equipment drop/specials prices.
