Probably no other way to say it...but keep those fans on as long as needed to keep your area cool. It doesn't matter how long they stay on for. If the fan noise is a problem, then there are approaches to help.

If you do not want to manually control the fans, you can purchase a fan regulator which automatically turns the fans on and off depending on what temp. you have it set to.

You really don't want the temps to get over the mid 80's if you can help it.

In my tent I have the fans run the whole time the lights are on. I have an air cooled hps hood though.

i have a question!

is there such a thing as a fan regulator that can also control the speed of the fan? because when my lights are on i will want the fan to be on its highest, and when the lights are off, i want it to be on low, just to keep the smell in check.

It is called an oscillator (I think). All it does is limits the power available to the unit.

My advice, take it for what you will, is to use a bigger fan than what is needed and run it at a lower speed (for noise and life). Experiment, use the thermometer in the room with the lights on and see what speed is needed to maintain the desired temperature.

Another method is to vent the hood seperately. Run a duct outside of the room, through the hood (if it is a vented hood) and then out again.
