what he means is 30V is way outside of the operating range of the cob and it doesnt work like that. he could run 4 with that driver, but in no case would they be running at 30V

So now I'm shopping for a new driver. I own 5 CXB3590's. I want them to run at 1400mA. I'm thinking about the HLG-120H-C1400a.
We know that if we combine the voltage requirements of each COB, we would need 174.5v at this current, which is above this driver's maximum voltage range, so no it would not work.
108v is the max of this driver's capabilities.
Instead of adding all the voltages beforehand, I take 108 and divide by 5.
I'm left with 21.6
Since I know that each COB would need a minimum of 34.9v , and 21.6 is below that number, I know that the HLG-120H-C1400a will not a good candidate for this job. I select my driver based on the requirements of the LED's I intend on using, not the other way around. So if I already know that a particular LED requires 34.9v, I have 5 of them, and I know that I want to run them at 1400mA; I can look for a driver by either having already combined the voltages (like you seem to do) or I can divide the driver's max voltage by the number of LED's desired.

available driver voltage/required cob voltage = maximum number of cobs that can be driven
or
cob voltage x number of cobs = required voltage and select from any of hundreds of drivers that can fit

i guess im puzzled why you would ever think of running 5 50W cobs and start looking at a 150W driver? unless you were tryig to make some kind of iterative example. OP is prob confused as hell at this point
