I'm having a bitch of a time getting my hands on 6500K lights (CFL) of any wattage where I live... wondering if 5000K or 5100K would be alright for veg? Will there be any major difference in growth using a lower K?

You can base your decision on the fact that the sun on the equator at noon is around 5000k.

big time, 6500 K is like about 4 times more effective for growth. Philips & GE are the brands most common here in BC. London Drugs, Home Depot, Canadian Tire are a few places I've bought them, keep looking or go online if you have to. (you might want to download this chart attached)

Thanks... I'm sure equator weed is nice... but atomic equator weed is better! I'll keep searching for 6500 to make it worth my while.
