50w HPS Cab Grow? What do you think of this lamp? from HomeDepot...

any suggestions on ventilating the fifty watt high-pressure-sodium bulb in a seven-cubic-feet cabinet?

is there really a need for ventilation with such a small wattage?

I was pretty amazed when I saw that.....I didn't know they sold anything like that at home depot. Really I've just never heard of a 50w HPS. Does it plug into a outlet or what? And I really don't know how much a 50w HPS would cover.....

yeah i believe it does, but you have to cover the photosensor. well a single watt from an HPS is around 107 lumens, and the sun produces around 10,000 lumens. so since its only two plants in only seven-cubic-feet i believe/hope/and pray Christ willing that the Lights of America 50 watt HPS lamp from HomeDepot will work perfectly -- i will most likely get another or some cfls as well -- but Christ willing the HPS will not get too hot.

what do you all think? would a 50 watt hps get too hot in close proximity to buds in only 7cf?

You should try and convert that light to a remote ballast, which isnt hard to do. It's just the ballast gives off most of the heat and i really doubt that has a digital ballast(more efficient). That way you can mount the ballast outside your cabinet. And defineately use some cfl's to man. Happy growing.

i actually went up to both of the HDs around here and both did not have the light!!! pisses me off.

well anyways, everything happens for a reason -- its all in Christ's Hands. damn how crazy am i to believe some Man Is God.

Bro, what don't you just do what I did. I bought a 150watt HPS (which is double the wattage that thing puts out, plus more lumens which is what is really important... not wattage). But what I did, was I just went ahead and bought two 150watt Sunsystem HPS kits and they come with the bulb too.. I think I only payed like $75 to 85$ bucks per unit... so for under $200 I'm shooting out 300watts and around 30k of lumens if not more.. I'd have to check the actual specs of my lights to find out exactly how many lumens I'm shooting out.

My point here is, I would recommend just paying an extra 40 to 50 bucks... and getting yourself at least a 150watt HPS light. 50watts isn't going to yield you anything that would be worth your time bro.. just trying to help you out here.

yeah you are right. but i think im just going to buy some cfls -- 2x42w & 4x23w Warms, 2x30w Daylights. what do you all think about a "red" bulb??? i mean it aint like the actual Kelvin Color Temperature changes... does it?
