Problem is it doesn't work while wet, DM that is. I used to mix into my soil blends in a preventative effort.

Mosquito dunks do work, but take time for the Bti to affect their nervous system...several weeks.

I still use it, much more effective than DM earth.

Day 42 flowerin ok guys big update lots of pictures. All of my plants are loooking alittle stressed, and one looks like its just dying. This is due to the sand not letting the soil breathe and evaporate the moisture. I noticed at first they were all giving signs of overwatering which i knew was not the case. the soil was just holding stagnant water too long. Smelled like mildew alittle so i took the sand off the tops and exposed the top roots. need to get something to top them off with. and now the gnats are going to be horrible again. 10 minutes after removing the sand gnats were emerging from the soil. pyrethrin should be here next week. along with traps and more ona. looks to be a 10 week grow from the way most of them arent very developed yet. but on to the pictures gimme some feedback. anything i can do to save the dying plant? i gave it nitrogen in its fert but its suffering from the wet roots badly. the darker pictures were from yesterday when the power went off. got some great shots of the trics shinning.

Here's some info. from P. Allen Smith's website. "I suggest applying an organic pest control containing Bacillus thuringiensis, or BT."
Mosquito dunks contain BT. And I've seen a lot of people say they do the trick.

Also, maybe try spraying soil with lemon scented ammonia?

Isn't pyrethrin used in dandruff shampoo?

hey ubmc. I'd suggest first adding several fans to blow over the pots to help dry them out. You must eliminate the conditions in which fg like to live if you want to make any headway getting rid of them.

then try gnatrol. The stuff works great for fg.

thanks guys. yeah ive read about the dunks but alot of people have said they worked but the gnats returned quickly. i ordered the pyrethrin off amazon and it should be here next week along with sticky traps. i have fans blowing across the tops of them at all times. i fear the larvae number in the thousands and here in a day or two im going to see a total infestation again.

i've made several 8" filters. I have found the cost is comparable initially. the real savings come when you need to refill them in a year or so.

12"&8" endcaps an 8" a collar, hardware cloth and window screen. The most expensive part is the carbon.

huge pita to build though...at least the way I did it.

then you need to let the pots dry more between waterings....how long do you have left in flower? It may not be worth an extended battle if they are that bad.


and be careful with the pyrethrin. drenching with it can harm roots I have found. Especially on plants which have compromised root systems to begin with.

it has been my experience that it takes weeks to corral a bad infestation of fg's. Many many treatments.

IMO your best bet is to decrease waterings increase air circulation. Put some sticky traps out and ride it out.

save the pyrethrin and such for next time.

bottom line. You have to eliminate the favorable habitat FIRST anyway. This takes time.

yeah i have been doing alot of research on fg infestations and i let them get bone dry before waterings all the way up untill, idk if u read back, but i did the boiling water treatment and it helped alot but they came back with a vengance and from that point to taking the sand off today they have just been soaked unable to breathe. the gnats are getting stuck on the trics and im having to groom them daily to keep them from becomming a part of the buds. biiiiig pain in my ass. So you think the pyrethrin is alittle too late to make any difference at this point?

I mean...you can try it. i'm sure it'll kill a lot of em. It may hurt your roots some though. but the gnats are hurting them too. so I guess it's a trade off. If you are letting the pots dry out that much between waterings then that is all you can do there. That's good.

I used to think fg's were a joke....until I let them get away from me once and devastated a crop.

Personally I liked the gnatrol the best. It doesn't harm the roots but works very very well. Kinda expensive though.

yeah i didnt really see much bad effects from the boiling water. except where the steam collected and killed the leaves. very few spots were effected like that tho. but yeah def will not do again. and cost isnt a huge issue for me but i already bought the pyrethrin lol . I didnt think i would have any problems since i had none during veg and a month into flower. they just popped up all randomly. must be from the soil tho. not using soil ever again

The carbon is pretty cheap at the petco near me.

I plan on making one that's not huge, I only have 2 plants.


OP those buds look nice man, wish the bugs weren't fucking things up. Best of luck.
