How's this for thinking outside the box? Organic Hydroponic hybrid system, with an ebb & flow lower zone, and an organic upper zone.

I was tinkering with the system the other day last week, and added a party cup tray to it, which is going to get use this upcoming round. Booyeah! I hope to improve from my 3rd place finish last round.

While I haven't committed 100% to the breed, I'm most likely going to do a homebrew cross of mine: Atomic Love X Hash Plant. The Atomic Love is a Dr. Atomic special hybrid of NL#5 x Love Potion #1, and the Hash Plant is from Crop King, both breeders from beautiful BC.

Both parents are heavy yielders, why the AL got me 3rd place in the last party cup comp. :)

I may reserve the right to pop 1 commercial bean as a backup, as I've yet to run this homebrew strain, so who knows...
 
I saw hash plant somewhere on youtube...Is it from crop king seeds? I am considering popping my P91 X Thai and my New blue diesel seeds. Has anyone grown "New Blue Diesel"? My germination success rate is at 40% so I might keep my good beans for the 10th annual party cup. Psych! All systems grow!

Ebb and flowhydroponics is a method of growing plants hydroponically that is known for its reliability, simplicity of operation and low cost of investment. Pots or a flood tray are filled with a grow media such as gravel, clay pellets, lava rock etc. These do not function like soil or add nutrition to the plants but will anchor the roots and will function as a temporary reserve of water and nutrients. The hydroponic solution floods the system four to six times a day and is allowed to drain away in between flood cycles.
With this system a water tight flood tray or pot, containing either clean gravel, clay pellets or lava rock is used as the rooting medium. The system is then periodically flooded for short periods of time (5 to 15 minutes) with a nutrient solution pumped from a reservoir. By placing the reservoir below the flood tray, with a over flow drain, the nutrient solution can drain back by gravity through the pump with the same line that supplied the water and nutrients during the flood cycle. Our favorite media is lava rock with this type of system. Lava rock drains quickly and traps air and will not leave a clay residue if using clay pellets, which can clog the water pump after time. Go for it, it's not about winning the prizes or being judged, pretty low key comp really as long as you have thick skin and don't mind being called names, being told that you're cheating when you're not and the like, it's all good ;) I learned quite a bit from the last one (1st 12/12 from seed) and the entertainment is priceless. Get you engineering hat on and pop some seeds!

Really The Ruling Is Needed To Disallow This System.Their Is No Way To Contain The Roots in The Party Cup.Besides I Thought This Was A Party Cup Comp IE Everything Contained In A Party Cup.Looks To Me Like The Lower R.es Is Atleast 3gl Thats 3 Gallons Of Nute Solution. To Where When I Start Out My Res Is 8oz's And Late In Flower Its 3-4 Ozs.Now The Trick Is Keeping The Plant Alive When She's Drinking 2 Cups A Day.Honestly Do You Not See This As A Problem????????
 
Agree with Dawg and Frozen on this one, it's not in the spirit of the "party cup" competition, like Dawg said, part of the challenge in party cups is exactly that, the constraints of the 16 oz cup, keeping the damn things alive after a few weeks when they're in flower (and drinking like coked up bitches as Dawg would say) ;) Any system that extends the roots (or any part of the plant) beyond the confines of the standard 16 oz cup is unfair advantage imo...
