I am surprised I haven't seen more talk about these new lights: http://www.gothamhydroponics.com/led-grow-lights/lighthouse-hydro-ion-8-426w-led-grow-light-fsf-uvb.html
I wish there was more information on that light and the only people who have seemed to have disappeared.

I want amazing coverage so I am debating
4 XGS-190s
4 ION 8 426w (3 to start)
3 AT200s (this may be a bit too expensive)

I really was set on the ION 8 for the longest time and they are both out of stock till next week I wish there were par readings on the small light for the full 2x2 footprint and more data on grows etc. Does anyone know about the ION 8 yet? WTF happened to Wijuana he wanted that light.

According to A51, two XGS-190's would fill a 5' X 2' footprint. Why not try the recommendations first? If you felt it wasn't enough you could always spend another $1000...

Wiring the UVB separately so a grower can set those on their own timers is a neat idea.

One comment has me wondering: "Our genuine American made Cree 10w chips are not just advertised as 10w but actually pull 10w of real power..." The wording is unclear, but it sounds like they're saying they installed 10W Cree's and are running them at 10W?

I was looking at that just yesterday. There is one on ebay going for bid, was $77 last I looked. Don't think it had UVB though. It is a prototype LIGHTHOUSEHYDRO ION 8

I would say you only need 2, maybe three if your feeling the need, AT200's or a51's. I would consider the new sgs over the xgs myself. Even though less watts, it may yield more.

2 long ways of either should do 2'x5' just fine. If thou wanted to cram 3 in there, then run them wide ways.

Can't speak for the ion8, but my feelings aren't good. Plus the price is pretty high for what it is. if it was like $150-$250tops maybe for a starter light(s), but your thinking of spending enough to pick top american units. And you good for you, it's the right choice.

EDIT: just saw the ebay post. It defiantly closer to reality value with the bids there.

I don't see why their new light would be all that horrible considering the chrome version had decent results for a friend of mine, close enough to be satisfied but this is much better than the chrome.

I emailed A51 to ask why they are releasing something away from all white. I am hoping to get their opinion on which route to go.

Area 51 > BlackStar

It's not even close.
A51 is made up of top of the line parts and includes a lifetime warranty.
BlackStar is made up of budget parts and has a well documented history of having a short lifespan.

I will probably go with 3-4 XGS-190s and if 4 is too much then I will use it for something else. I figure having 4 would have some amazing coverage with how they will be spaced.

I have the ion 8 and it is powerful but I would like to know more about the LEDs they used. I can tell you one thing tho, compared to the 240w panels the ion 8 is MUCH brighter and looks a lot more sturdy.

Just got my xgs 190 today and does seem well made. Area 51's warranty sold me also. Just doing a small grow, 3 at a time in a 3x3 tent. Will add more lights as I go. My buddy went with vipar and we'll compare later.

What about 5 of those new 75's? When you get a response from A51 why don't you paste the pertinent info over.. I'm sure there are tons of people who would love to know.. Before I bought my last SGS I asked a similar question and really appreciated his response.

SGS in action..

Or go check out what the DAWG is up to.. He's got that mamajama juking wit the red-n-whites

And then check out what the fellas are doing wit the all whites... whichever you prefer should kinda lead you in the right direction.

Or... what about one XGS in the middle with a 75 on each end??

I wouldn't go all XGS its only white, you should do some of the other panels with more red and 2 XGS's.

I'm on the west coast so shipping took about a week. Light was out of stock when ordered but from time ordered to time I got it was 2 1/2 weeks. Don't let that out of stock message deter you, the wait isn't that long. Starting grow very soon, first time using seed bank and went with nirvana. Just got Snow White, bubblelicius, raspberry cough and ak 48. Snow White goes first. Been studying indoor grow for 6 months and I'm ready but a little nervous. Let the fun begin!

x2 AT200's would rock 5x2.5'

that or x3 RW150's (or two), and at that point your at the same price point...

x4 is a little ridiculous, you could even probably swing x3/4 RW75's in 2ft depth

just my 2 cents, I got 3xrw-150's, havent grown with them but the spectrum and PAR looks a bit better than the xgs-190, less whats but almost the same PAR, and the xgs-190 recommend 24" canopy distance while he told me 18-24" for the rw-150, which would potentially results in a stronger micromole concentration. I ordered last week internationally, in canada, and received them already.
