Was going to buy an optic 650s, but I’m extremely indecisive at any given point in the day...... now I’m stuck between optic slimline 650s,phototek 1000w co2 pro (after seeing Coco for cannabis and the evil genius from migro test that light and both stated there is no better light for a 5 x 5 tent/area because of all the lights they tested had trouble getting above 500 PPFD in the outer 2 feet of a 5 x 5 area except that light, and at the end of that article he stated that dr. Photon now uses one for his own personal grow and that’s the highest level of respect he can give a light manufacturing company because he’s tested so many other lights)..........but.......they haven’t tested the 650s...... so I’m trying to get out of spending 1500$ for a light and 1350$ if I choose to go with the 650s...... also are hlg’s really capable of pulling 3-4lbs out of a 5x5 tent because that’s my goal......I know I can do it because iv already hit 78g per square foot but the light I was useing won’t cover a 5x5 no mater how I position it......I just need some honest advice on getting a light that won’t set me up for failure.....thx cheers y’all

I hear 2-2.5 a light all the time at the local hydro shop but hlg is their big dog their.... iv seen alit of people test hlg and they can’t cover the outer 2 feet of a 5x5 area with more than 500ppfd which is in my mind a waste of money and more importantly time. But if some one out their can prove to me they can pull 3lb off 1 hlg I need a 5x5 tent I’ll give them a fair shake

Someone is running 2 320 (or 340 idk) watt meiju lights in a 5x5 I think-maybe BK?....actually none of that may be right, but close. It sounded like the best "deal" for a 5x5. I'm about to test a Medic Grow Fold 8 in a 4x4 at 80%, but it's massive and would cover a 5x5 well at 100%-just to give you some "budget" options. HLG of course is awesome if you have the funds, there are other nice high end lights too.

It seems to cover a 4x4 extreamly well but that 5x5 is guna be hard to cover. Because it’s already so close to that 700 PPFD at the 4 x 4 Mark, so theirs 9 ft.² of space not getting adequate light and when your pulling 50+ gram per square foot that’s a huge hit

The best light for a 5x5 is 4 lights, one centered over each corner sector. :)

This can be done with loads of different lights but I think one of my favorite solutions is 4x doubleboard kits, slightly dimmed down for a total wattage around 800w. These 240 kits are said to be for 4x2 but the spread/throw they give is really better suited to a 3x2, but with a little less wattage. If you try to fit 4x 3x2 sections in a 5x5 there's only one way of doing it, with the small bit in the middle being lit by cross lighting. You can get double board kits from hlg or any of the alibubbers on the cheap.

Or you can do it with 6-8 qb96 at similar wattage. This is a nice diy solution which won't cost too much but also come with top shelf support from HLG statside.

PJ Diaz runs a 315 CMH plus several hlg qb 96 around it-I love that idea and imagine the quality of buds it produces would be outstanding. I'm glad Rocket mentioned the qb96 because that's another great idea.

Then go for the double board kits or whatever 200ish w light you prefer, 4 centered over each cuadrant. This way you have a way to control the centre hotspot (the same reason why most lights fail at the edges.

Anybody that tells you they got 3 lbs out of a 5x5 tent is lying. There simply isn't room for the plants to get big enough to yield that amount. Even under ideal conditions in a warehouse, you're going to max out around 60 grams per square foot. But you've only got 25 square feet to deal with and your limited in height because the light will start burning the plants up as they get taller.

So the best you're probably going to get is around the 35 to 40 ounces per square foot mark which is going to be right at the 2 pound mark.

Frankly, I don't think you'll get that either in a 5x5 no matter what light you put in it.

But best of luck trying!

You like those qb96's a lot don't you @Rocket Soul ? I think I was reading a post yesterday from a member thanking you for setting them up with those lights. Nice price too... https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/products/qb96-elite-v2-quantum-board-engine
Board and heatsink comes in around 69 (a bit less with RIU10 voucher); it's the one of the most bangforbucky deal if you want to buy from a reputable US company, especially when you are looking for better spread. The only thing is that they need a lot of clearance due to loads of watts from a small light.
