6 ft t 8 lights

hi all ive got 2 x 6 foot 75/85 watt T 8lights for my veg room but there to long to fit in, will i be able to cut the metal caseing that there in and replace the bulbs for 5 or 4 foot ones?

and will the new bulbs have to be the same wattage? or can they be less. thanks for any help.

p.s will thees be enough to veg 6 plants before they go into the flower room(hps)

No the ballast(s) are for the 6' bulbs, it would be easier and cheaper to just get some new fixtures, but no that is not nearly enough light to flower with. Look into a small hps, can be found cheap if you look hard enough.

thanks for the reply ive already got a 600 hps for flower its the vegging i wanna use them for, how many 4 foot T5/T8s do you think for 6 plants? will 1 125watt cfl do? veg room is about 3x3 foot. thanks again

3x3 makes it tough, cfls may be your only option for that, or a small hps or mh for veg also. Possibly just a bathroom vanity type light fixture with several (6 or so) 100 watt equivalent CFL's , that way they are spread evenly, rather than just a single kind of bright cfl you have several less bright spread across the space. Cheapest way to go too, habitat for humanity for the fixture, home depot for the lights

the room is about 4 foot tall and will be swapping them to the flower room at about 18inches (4 weeks of veg) there is also mylar on the walls
