I have had much success growing indoors, but this is my first grow outdoors, and these girls are getting HUGE! and its still early in the grow season. I am growing three strains; Armageddon, Power Skunk, and White Widow.
I know big plants = big yield and I've seen the wild stuff around here grow to be taller than 8ft, but the wild stuff is only 3-4 ft. tall right now and my power skunk is 6 ft tall and the Armageddon isn't far behind. The white widow im not concerned about as it was planted late and is only about 18 inches tall.
I'll have you know I haven't done anything to these plants yet, other than take a few clones and top a few Armageddons.
I'm sure its the same concept as indoor growing(same common goal) but this is on a much bigger scale than I am use to, so I was wondering if some of you outdoor growers could give me some advice on how to care for these green giants to ensure they stay healthy and bring me good buds.

i dont have any pics yet but i anticipate sharing some pics with you guys in due time... I started indoors with nutes until they were about 18-20 inches tall then i transplanted them outdoors...hmm i dont remember the exact date but it was around the first week of may. and since then i have only watered them once and only used nutes in that one watering. They all look really great, they have faded to a lighter shade of green than they use to be as they arent getting all that nitrogen anymore. A few of them were getting bothered(nothing major) by these damn spiders that instead of building webs they form these balls of foam that shrivel the leaves they build them on....ive tried finding info about pest control but just decided to let nature take its course, nature finds its own way to survive i guess, although im tempted to go buy some insecticide thats safe for tomatoe plants for example.. everything is going well, Im just afraid these things are gonna get too big for their own good even. harvest will be in mid october....or after the first frost? an old dude told me always harvest after the first frost no matter what....(???)

well here are the pics I promised....Starting with my garden decorations (wild weed) and before you get all crazy on me, know that all the males are taken care of when the time comes. Its gonna be a lot of extra work but I'm hoping I don't get any seeds here.

If you didnt notice in my other picture of Armageddons I have a problem with one of my plants. There is something drillin holes in my stems and causing everything above it to die. Has anyone ever encountered these pests before and if so how can I get rid of the damn thing(s)

another question I had was how much trimming should I do with these monsters? I trimmed a few bottom branches so far but that's it..

thoughts anyone?
I'd spray some neem oil, soap/water, or any homemade gardening insect deterrent on them (there's a lot of recipes out there). Otherwise, I'm jealous of your grow location. Wish I could find something besides swampland and isolated palm hammocks around here. :cuss:

Oh and to answer your question about pruning - my advice is that unless you have a need to control their height, I wouldn't prune or top them. It's a debatable subject though.

spray some neem oil on them 4 bugs and I would'nt trim nothing off. I got 6' w.w. and they look great along with super skunk and power skunk, both over 6' as well as afgani mazar 7 plus foot on them and I haven't done nothing other than feed every 3rd watering. I think you're in good shape, other than the bugs.

As someone mentioned, neem oil for pests.

Only trim if you need to get more light to interior bud sights (later in life) or if the inner foliage is dying because of poor air circulation, which really shouldn't be a problem until they're hedges.

Looking awesome man, can you elaborate on your location and the wild weed?

Thanks for the advice on the recipes, there are a lot. Honestly though I was hoping I could just buy something. Where can I get this neem oil stuff? And does it work on caterpillars as well? Because tho the bugs are present they aren't causing substantial damage. But whatever is drilling these holes in my stalks is really doing some big damage, its gotta be some kind of caterpillar. I live in the Midwest, and apparently there was a lot of land around here that was used for hemp production back in the day, the wild stuff is decedents of that stuff. People refer to it as ditch weed, but I did a little experiment last summer and chopped all the males I could find so the females would bulk up with pure sensimilla (and they did for sure). I dried it and cured it and it wasn't too bad, I would put it in the "decent mids" quality catagory. But I noticed those wild plants get mega tall and produce decent sized top colas but all the lower branches produced alot of smaller colas....which made me wonder if I did some trimming on my crop i could have instead of a shit load of medium to smaller buds.....a few less way bigger buds; which would in turn save me a lot of time when it comes to manicuring...

so that sounds about the same situation as I'm in except I don't water mine. the rain schedule has been working out perfectly lately, soon as I go like 3 or 4 days without rain I think to myself well I better go water them tomorrow for sure....then it rains lol. When I do have to start watering I'm gonna have to get screens to put over top my buckets cuz I keep having mice jumping in them and dying, dont really wanna water with stinky dead mouse water...lol btw, you know those slow release fert. pebbles? Would I benefit from sprinkling them around in my plot a bit? Thanks guys im gonna go put screens on my buckets right now actually, maybe I'll take some more pics if I see any changes.:bigjoint:

Damn, that's crazy. I can't imagine seeing wild marijuana. Better hope yours don't get pollinated by the ditchweed. G'luck.

Yea no doubt, Im probably gonna have a seed or two but it wont be the end of the world. I take out all the males I can find when the time is right, but with insects (bees, etc) carry pollen from distant areas there is always a possibility that I have no control over.

Well I went shopping and did some work in the garden and much to my surprise these worms are really starting to do some very significant damage on my smaller Armageddon and now I have the same issue starting on my big one! :cuss: Here are some pics of the nasty damage and the start of some damage on the big one. So I sprayed them all today with this insecticidal soap that I found at Walmart. It seems really safe because it says you can use it up to day of harvest! so it cant be that bad. hopefully it works tho because I'm starting to get pretty worried. Also I had this idea of setting up a protective perimeter if you will. As you can see from the pic I bought this powder that is suppose to be pretty strong stuff and I dusted all the way around both my patches, I'm hoping that will stop alot of stuff from even coming into my patch let alone on my plants. Also I sprikled some pellets of the bloom booster down for the hell of it to see if I see any improvments on my plants coloring. The plants were thirsty today as they have gone 5 days without water, so I was going to water today but it rained so I didnt have to, lol so they will be happy in tomorrows sun for sure.
