600 watt HPS Question

Got a 11 month old 600 watt HPS bulb and it is making the babies Pretty Hot...
Is this TOO long to have a bulb? should I change?
Thank you for all your info.
Its a Horilux 600whps got in November..

all hps are really hot. Basically they are just really excited sodium particles creating friction. You just need more air moving and good choice on the 600w best w to lumen ratio

It seems a LOT hotter than when I first got it. Maybe I should just get another one. I have an intake and ehaust fan. Weird.

True, i did buy it in the winter....lol.. but I have adequet airflow (I thought) and still running hot. I have it around 3 FEET above the babies because of HEAT...HELP

mm..how are you determining its too hot?? if you're using a thermometer it should be in the shade,not directly in the path of the light. if you're using your hand to test the radiant heat, as you should, you should be able to move down the light to at least 18" without your hand being too hot.

Really, I have the thermometor that has an In and Out Temp. the Out is on a string and I have it at the top of the babies. Makes sence about the thermometor being Right under the lamp. huh.

the temps that are given as guidelines for weed are for the air temperature at the top of the plant canopy. if you have your thermometer;s probe in direct light it is picking up the radiant heat of the light and will give you a much higher temp than the air temp. you should not have to keep a 600 watt light three feet from the plants to get the right temperature.
