600HPS cooling advice appreciated.

Hi all

I am looking for some advice on a future grow project i have in mind. i have been researching like a man possessed for a few months now but still one question fails to be answered clearly enough for me to begin my grow adventure. this makes me sad.

basically i plan on growing 4-6 plants, running a 600hps light during the flower stage in a 1.2x1.2x2 (m) 3.9x3.9x6.6 (feet) grow tent with a 100mm TT inline extractor fan with carbon filter. so the question: will the extractor fan despite the carbon filter be enough to keep the room temperature at or close to the optimum temp for growing? assume room temperature to be average comfortable temp for northern hemisphere european country.

I would highly recommend buying a cool tube reflector for your 600w it will keep your temps around 70 degrees F well worth the purchase

I second the cool tube. I run the 6" cool tube 600w hps with 6" 331cfm elicent fan and pull, not push the air through the cool tube. This is my only exhaust (although I do have oscillating fans as well in my cab and multiple pc case fans for intake). My cab rarely gets hotter than 5 degrees than the room it's in.

I tried darn near every way of doing this cheaper and can tell you to learn from my errors/experiments Buy a good hood (be it a cool tube or bare minimum a hood with air ducting attachments) and good fan to cool the light. They are probably two of the best investments I made.

how are you going to actually cool the light? what is the temperature situation?
if ambient temp is anything over 70's, going to have huge heat issues in that tiny of a tent.

would suggest smaller light or a serious cooling system, not just moving the air around.

it's all in the fan, i dont know about your 100mm tt fan but you need a good one (400cfm ).sounds like you are using a computer fan and that wont cool a 600

If you vent correctly, no carbon filter will be needed for your hood-cooling. The air should be independant from the air in the grow room (cool air vented from outside of the room). The carbon filter will just slow down the flow-- and you are using minimal cfm. If you must go with computer fans, you will need one for intake and one for outtake. I agree with the other folks here though--- go with a heftier fan.

400 cfm would be more than enough im running a 170 cfm for a 4x4x7 grolab and that includes filter and light cooling

yea i suspected some sort of air cooled lighting system would be needed. thanks for the heads up.

DANKASAURUSREX thats interesting you should say that i was thinking using an air cooled via extractor light and having that as my only air pulling and extractor device. would it be enough to cool the light and keep room temps acceptable with the help of a couple of oscillating fans? would the air cooled lamp have a glass screen and be open at one end or just be like a standard reflector with a duct connector?

how about a 125mm so a 5inch extractor fan with carbon filter? its a proper extractor fan with a carbon filter fiitted inline and directly to the extractor.

hi dude im not going with computer fans im not sure where that one came from. my aim is to have an extractor fan that will pull air from outside the grow tent via a passive air intake over the light and extract the air outdoors.

My bad-- skimmed the reading. The comment about having independant circulation for the hood still stands, though. It's best if the air you run through the light is isolated from the air for the plants.

Yep. That's what I do. As mentioned my only exhaust is through my cooltube. Just use a big ass fan! I use a cool tube. The only downfall to this method is that you end up having to clean your tube once every few weeks because dust and stuff moves through there. I only clean mine once a month or so.....so not a big deal. Good luck!!

i have the exact same setup but with a cool tube venting outside and im running 90f and mid 70s lights off! im in the uk aswell. everyones havin problems but it aint affecting the plants.
