600w & 1000w hps lighting question..

Well hello, I have a question some lighting

Let's say hypothetically there are :
two 4x4 flood/drain trays (hydroponics)
8 week flowering strain

As soon as clones set root (8" tall) they go to tray 1.. no veg time

The first 4 weeks the plants are under a 600w hps... then moved to the next tray which is under a 1000w hps for the next 4 weeks to finish flowering

My question is... would there be much difference density/quantity wise if the plants were under a 1000w hps instead of 600w during the first 4 weeks? While they are transitioning from veg to flower, gaining height and getting used to a more intense light coming from fluros...

I'm under the impression density and quantity come from week 7-8 mostly

Any opinions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated .. ty very much

Great question! I run a 5x5 tent and I plan to run 600 watts for veg and 1000 watts once I flip to flower. I’m really interested in how others see this, but until you have a deep canopy the 1000 watt bulb seems like overkill. Just my thoughts.....I’m following.

provided they can handle it... and youre filling the space

when they are freshly rooted you could probably fit them all under a 600 for 2 weeks or so. no point in blasting 1000W on a 3x3

Do you have a lux meter? If so, just verify that you are getting enough lux for vegetative settings using the 600 watt bulb. That’s my plan. I’m gunning for 40-50,000 lux in veg and higher in flowering.
