600W HPS in small closet?

Imo that's going to be to much but a 400 with a cooled hood and good air exchange for both the cab and light is definitely doable.

A big factor will be the ambient temps surrounding the closet , winter time may allow you to maximize with a 600 but summer time temps might make even an air cooled 400 hell to deal with . Best bet in my opinion is to go with a digital ballast with a dial , tweak and adjust if need be . Closet growing without dials was hell in my opinion when using large HID systems .

More opinions? And what about the ballast which I gave link? Does it have a cooltube installed?
The hood shown in your link is a entry level el cheapo , same with the ballast and bulb and no this is not a cool tube and it will run hot as it is an open bulb system .

I can't offer to buy a dimmable ballast, it costs too high. So what will you suggest then? I plan on planting northern lights in ebb & flow hydro.

I'd try runnign a 400W in that space. I'm using a 400W in a cooltube in a 60cmx60cm space and it could easily do your space.

I would too go with a 4oo if using a magnetic , but do make sure to use a pedestal fan or a wall mount fan and make sure it is pointed at the bulb and hood , some clamp on lights work well for this too but as well you will want to have air flow amongst the plants .

HPS is so expensive when it comes to energy usage. I would go L.E.D. or compact fluorescent , especially for that small apace.

I'm not going to sell it, just for myself. So as I understood 600w HPS is overkill, that's right? Maybe there are some kind of bulbs between CFL & HPS/MH that don't require any kind of EXPENSIVE ballast? :) Or should I just go with a cheap 600w kit for 60pounds?

I wish I would have gotten the 400 hps mh dimmable. The heat from a 600 can be daunting from experience. Get a good vortex or hurricane 6" and an portable ac
